Where should I put my exhaust cutouts?
Hey all, I am getting ready to but some exhaust cutouts on my 2004 max and I can not decide where to put them since i've never done this before. I have had a full exhaust system before on my 97 max and as much as I loved the sound I DO NOT want another full system exhaust. I like my that my car doesn't have to rumble everywhere I go.
The question is, Do i place it before the cats, or after. Do i do the single cutout before the cat, or go double cutout after the cat. I plan on keeping everything the way it is, maybe go for a resonator delete.
I want performance gains, as well as sound. sound= NO cheap tin can rice rocket noise. more of a throaty mean sound like maximas should have.
Im also thinking larger weight injectors
does anyone with experience in swapping injectors have a preference in size?? i know i will need a tune.

put it right after the y and if you dont have one already go with a Quick Time Performance electronic cutout, have an exhaust shop run the switch into the center console or wherever you want. The manual ones leak and there a pain in the *** to crawl under and open.It will be crazy loud but some people claim up to 10 horse on the 3.5's and 2-4 mph in the quarter mile.

I had a manual 1 on my 94 Formula which was pretty common for these cars (nice throaty rumble at start up/ideling, and yes it was ovbnoxiously loud when you hit the gas, the interior vibrated), but I don't think you'll get the throaty rumble your looking for on a V6 car. I wouldn't do it. Its not the right type of car to put 1 on. You will lose ground clearance, so have to be slow over speed bumps to avoid scraping.
Oh, it was placed after the cats, and before the muffler. I rarely opened it. lol

Thanks guys, all great info. I definitely plan to get the electric ones. Also about the ground clearance. I took a look under the car the other day and surprisingly it has a lot of room up there for the cutouts so that they wont hang any lower then the cat is.
so im gathering after cat is the best location right before the Y. if that's the case then i could actually see how loud it will be since the mufflers are only put together with pipe clamps. and personally I think that the Maxima's engine displacement is large enough to make a mean sound.
If anyone out there can explain the physics behind performance and cutout placement it would be very appreciated. i know back pressure and flow rate and diameter play a role but how specifically?

Extra displacement works wonders. Same exhaust on my 4 culture was a lot meaner on the 2.4 than 2.0.
I've got a pretty much full cattman setup and need to replace the basket on one flannel. Not a pleasant sound.

another question. What is the best size piping to have? on my 4th gen max i had 3.75 and loved it. i lost back pressure and lost some torque in the lower revs but i have to say it more then made up for it past 3rpm. and with the 6th gen there is alot of unusable torque in the lower rpm (meaning if i put my foot down from a standstill im just going to spin my tires) so im not worried about losing a little back pressure. would 3" be a good size?
also having trouble finding a high flow cat. anyone have one or know of one? i would love to trash that giant hunk of metal.
