Help with hid!

I am going to install hids. It is very rare to find a set of 9012 hid bulbs for maxima. I keep seeing D2C, D2R, D2S come up for 04-08 maxima. I have halogen headlights but I seen a adapter for oem xenon bulb adapter to use on aftermarket ballast. So if I bought the adapter and the oem xenon maxima bulbs(D2C, D2R, D2S) will or fit and work with my halogen headlights? I already have aftermarket ballast.

Your going to have to do an HID conversion if you have stock halogen bulbs. Involves drilling a 1" hole in the plastic cap of the headlight housing. Everything is plug and play after that.

But, the kit you would need are a 9005 or 9006 which would be a replacement for the 9012's. If that makes any sense.

Oh yeah, you don't need an adapter...

What about requirements of running the ballasts off the battery versus the existing wiring/circuitry? I have read and read and searched and searched, nothing conclusive.

Also do the HID kits make use of the super fragile gray plastic housing clip that snaps on to the back of the light bucket? I broke both of mine replacing standard bulbs, need to get some new ones if they are reused.

Forgot to mention that if you wanted the best of the best and you got some money to spend. Than here's a couple of suggestions:

Forgot to mention. If you have the ballasts than you can just get these bulbs:

All I will say, is that it's a great price. Better than paying 50+

I got a kit installed but it only works when I directly wire it to the existing circuitry. I would prefer to run it off the relay harness but the ballasts are not activating. I plugged the extra female connector on the battery side of the harness into the headlight plug, so the relay is closing and I get power at the connector for the ballast but it does not activate. Any ideas what could be the problem?

Relay is a 40 amp and fuse is a 30 amp, the ballast only needs 6.5 amps to startup. Kit works fine when I do not use the relay harness. Tips?

Hard wiring your HID kit to your battery is possible but definitely isn't necessary at all. If you got the right kit than all that is needed is to plug and play. The ballasts will receive power when you connect your headlight to the power connection of the car.

As for your other question. I'm not quite sure of what you mean. You might have to take a pic and post it.

Like I said, you shouldn't have to do that at all. You might have gotten some bad ballasts. Where did you get the kits from? Ballasts are only supposed to connect to the HID bulbs themselves and nothing else. Unless, your working with relay kits in which I don't have any knowledge about those honestly.

Better yet, what kind of kit did you get? Ex. 9005, 9006, D2S

It is a 9006 kit. Like I said I don't think there is anything wrong with the ballasts as they work when they are plugged directly into the Nissan wiring. The relay harness does not use the two pin plug to power the headlights, it of course takes power directly from the battery. On the drivers side it plugs in to the headlight two pin plug to get a signal to close the relay. That works as far as getting voltage but the ballasts do not activate, no humming buzzing like when connected directly.

I wish I could be of more help but I don't have any experience with using relays. But, from the knowledge that I do have about them. It might either have been the way that you hooked your relay harness to the kit (supposed to be hooked to the connection for power obviously), battery, or you might just have a bad relay harness. The two pins you were referring to..I'm assuming are the + and - connections that are usually hooked up to the battery. If so, than that is the problem because the relay kit won't work without them. Since they are your power source for the ballasts at this point.

Hopefully someone will chime with a better answer for you. If worse comes to worse. You don't have to use a relay harness for the headlights. It's not necessary at all and your HID kit will work fine without it. Unless, you got a real crappy kit.

Pins are just the terminals inside the connector I was using to check for voltage. It has voltage right up to the ballasts, I even asked my electrician neighbor about it and he is stumped.

Yeah, it works great without the relay. I drove around a bit last night, nice white wide light pattern. I will post about the install soon.

Yeah, from all that I read about people having relay harnesses. I've maybe heard one other person with an issue with the harness but it was primarily due to the bulbs not working. They ended up replacing the kit through warranty.

But, it's great to hear that the kits working for you now. Can't wait to see the pics.
