HID Nightmare

So my right (passenger) HID lights is gone!! Went and brought new ballast, bulb and still nothing works, the crazy thing is that one bulb, gives both hi beam and low beam but it's NOT A BI XENON bulb, any know what the hell is wrong or how this was achieved?

A circuit tester/test light would be your friend here. Before going out and buying anything else, use a test light to determine if youre getting power. If not, start tracing back....wires, fuses, etc.

Check fuse number 45 and 36 in the IPDM they should be 15amp. If it blew a fuse then it is one of those two. The IPDM is located on the passenger side underneath the beauty cover by the windshield washer bottle.

Taiwan cheap crap made hid kit. you get what you pay for. what can I say. I had 3 kits all go defective within 6 months. Even had a brand new kit, one bulb would turn on half the time......

Oh and dont tell me "but I got a real name brand ", theyre all fake. Forget it.

Your only viable option is to get stuff from http://www.theretrofitsource.com/

Get real projectors, bulbs, ballasts, and thats it.

It's either this, or get crap.

O.o i didnt buy anything expect for a used car that came with it installed, light went out after it rained all last sunday, so am not sure what brand it is i just want it fix before NYPD give me a bloody ticket, we got pulled over the other day by undercover, he told us fix the tint, even though i dont think it was tint we got pulled over for, if you guys want pic let me know cause i got pic of the old ballast and the old bulb, the person that did the mod before actually GLUED the bulb into the housing and it came right out in my hand as i touch the bulb, its a 10k 9006 bulb, low beam from what i was told but it act as high and low beam somehow

I keep hearing the same thing, lol I got the same exact bulb but I think it has to do with the ballast most ppl say no but I just look it up and I found my ballast and it said bi-xenon ballast ultra slim, it was mad in china. so.... My guess is somehow the ballast seems to be giving the bulb more voltage hence it gets brighter, buts it a single filament low beam 9006 bulb I got, so am kinda stumped, shocked and amazed all at the same time, let see in the morning when I check the fuse out.

The bulbs aren't bi-xenon, the projectors are. Look up bi-xenon projectors to see how they work. Basically, the bulbs ALWAYS put out the same amount of light, but a shield in the projector blocks some of it. When the high-beams are activated, the shield lifts and allows more light to pass through.

I agree that aftermarket HID kits are bad, I have always had problems with ballasts/bulbs burning out and the light output is horrible. I always have to use my fogs at night to actually see anything.

I'd check the voltage at the OEM headlight bulb connector to see if that's at 12V when the headlights are on before buying anything else.

well i was able to get everything working but not my hi/low beam, as it was before, now the light is just low beam, which is kinda strange cause its the same bulb, the only thing that was changed is the ballast and fused, i discovered the the fuse was blown, to make things short i think the ballast seem to be controlling high and low beam on a single filament bulb, how, i have no idea but atleast i wont get a ticket till i could figure out what the heck the person did to get it to give out HI/Low on a single filament bulb.

you know what i think your theory might be right but i will check it out again 2morrow, cause i tested the light while i was OUT of the light to make sure everything work, INCLUDING the Hi/Low beam fuction and the light stayed the same, while the driver was switching btw high and low, i could hear a LOUD clicking noise though as we move it from low to high beam but as i check up the projector just now on google i do see what you mean and if it is, then i will check it out 2morrow while the car is on, i think you sir might be 100% right about the projector situation but its still pending, if you are correct then it will all make sense how one filament bulb can play both Hi/Low Beam role

FYI, it's not a theory, it is fact that that's how our projectors work (not trying to be an @ss, just letting you know). Have you tried looking at the high-beam light output against a wall as a test? The high-beam connector is the second smaller connector inside the headlight (next to the headlight bulb connector, should be attached to the headlight cap), are you 100% sure it's connected?

I got the DDM Tuning 55W 8K 9006 for my 07 and the highs and and lows are HID. I was wondering how that worked. I've used their kits in 3 of my cars with good results. I also have 35w 3k H11 in the fogs. So far so good. You have to push all pins in before connecting the kits. I also put electrical tape their too. For $45 dollars a kit it is the same price as some nice silverstars. I even moved a kit to 3 different cars and it still works. Shipping does take a while. It seems like they drop ship from the orient. If you don't mind waiting a week and a half, they're great

Apparently the ballast went bad and blow one of the fuse, hence why nothing was working until someone mention replacing the fuse in the passenger side fuse box, saying so I found the bad fuse, rush over to autozone, found the fuse, reconnected my new ballast and old bulb and boom!! It was alive again I didn't wanna try out the old ballast again cause I think some went really bad in it from all that rain that fell here and there was a burning smell coming from the old ballast, only started smelling it after the guy where I brought the new ballast from tried it and it shut off his testing unit o.O
