Problems with a remote start.

Ok so I had a remote start installed on my car awhile ago. Whenever I use my button to turn the car on its fine. Whenever I turn my car off using the button the car turns off but the lights stay on. I have my light setting set on auto. I do not like the fact Id have to keep my lights on or off to be able to turn car on and off with the button properly . I've been told this is a Nissan issue and the Nissan computer can't recognize the car being off when using the button therefore the lights stay on when trying to turn it off? Just doesn't make sense to me but I figured one of you Nissan wiz's would know . Anybody got a solution on this one for me?

Why is it Nissan's issue? You had an aftermarket remote start installed so you are basically on your own. Not sure of this one. I would never have this installed once the car is built. Cutting into the wiring harness is a no no IMO. Will it work if you use the lights manually? May be your only alternative.

I don't think he meant it's Nissan's issue, just that it's an issue with remote starts and Nissans. I've heard of problems with 6.5gens and remote starts, don't recall what they were or how they were fixed though.

With the Auto lights, the lights only come off after a minute or two if the driver's door is opened then closed. So, if you use the button to turn off the car and never open the driver's door, the light will stay on indefinitely (aka till your battery dies)

When using the remote start do the lights stay on during the day or only at night? What remote start system (brand) are you using? It may just be the fact that you're using the Auto' lights function and thats the issue. If the lights stay on even during daylight then that is probably due to the way the remote start system is set up-to have the lights on when the remote start is used. Different systems & how they are set up allow you to dictate how the lights operate in remote start mode, i.e. parking lights only, headlights, etc. Have you tried adjusting the time delay for the 'Auto' lights function once the car is off? That may fix that to your liking. Otherwise depending what remote start system you have-with regards to relays/outputs etc. you may be able to get the lights activate or operate to your liking while still using the 'Auto' headlight Nissan feature. Who installed the system and give me some more specifics on the unit so I can help you further and get it to work the way you'd like.

Which alarm do you have? I have the Clifford 590.2x and it kills my battery when I dont enter my car after deactivating the remote start.

In order for your lights to turn off the car needs to see the driver door open. The remote start needs to pulse the driver door trigger after shut down to turn the lights off. Take it back to where you had it installed and tell em to fix it.

Isn't that what BOOTZ is talking about? Some things require the drivers (or any) door to open, just like when you unlock the doors but not open any they will re-lock after a period of time. If you shut the car off and don't open the door, from the cars point of view someone is still inside.

Something usually not taking into consideration when installing something you shouldn't if it wasn't installed on the assembly line.

Had the exact same problem with my 6th gen Maxima. I had the clifford G5 on it. Came outside many time to a dead battery because I unknowingly started the car the night before. My G doesn't have this issue though. Whether the door is opened or not after a few minutes the lights turn off. As a matter of fact, when I remote start my car the headlights will not come on until i put the ignition in the on position. I think the 7th gen Maximas work the same way.

damn I wonder if bootz idea will work. So do I just tell these fools to make the remote start pulse the door trigger after shutdown while using remote ?

There is only one module for that. The after market won't recognize the factory settings. I forgot what the part is called but it's similar to a by-pass module. It's about $60 off of ebay and they will charge you to install it.

I found out the hard way when I went out with my girl and left it on as usual. Luckily my car is a manual and I could of rolled the car and jumped start it. Save yourself the trouble and just turn off your lights.

Trust me. It will work. I do this professionally. Take it back to whoever installed it and have em fix it.

Otherwise use the manual lights. Or just be careful after you've remote started it.

I might be lazy but that's why I bought a Nissan maxima. Aka a jappensse Mercedes . This thing should wipe my a$$ for me for what I paid. Not to mention If I paid 275 for a remote starter. It better be working properly without any obstacles

Spoke too soon. Make that a G37. I'm going to wait a couple months at least till a nice one pops up for the right price
