05 maxima SE totaled with 97k miles, should I fix or get something else

recently some dude hit me and in the front and back and the car is totaled, but it would be possible to fix it with the money from my insurance....

Only thing is that is has the 5 speed auto transmission that everyone hates and I don't want to keep the car and end up having to pay 3k for a new tranny down the line in a year or something...I bought the car when it had 82k and like the title says it has 97k on it now..and I'm 21 so I've derped pretty hard in it.

I don't feel any shifting issues, the only thing is that if the speed drops past 20 and I step on the gas there is some harshness felt, I changed the fluid pretty much right when i got it and it only looked slightly dark (but then again the dealership I got it from probably did a flush too)

I would otherwise get a g35 sedan or lexus IS350

Start fresh man. Repairing that car will just mean the resale value will be garbage. Can't really say which car to get because it's a difference in price. "I" would go for any of the two, the Lexus first though because that car is just sexy

i rebuild wrecked cars, i dont mess with ANYTHING with frame damage normally, i just got my first maxima last month, its a 02 6 speed and the rear frame rail was damaged, my father looked at the car and told me it was an easy fix, so i bought it without looking at it, luckily the frame rail is only damaged in the last 12-18" and its behind the suspension, however it does have frame damage, *IF* your car is just cosmetic damage and you will only have to replace sheet metal removable (bolt on/off) parts, or bumpers/tail lights, then yes, id say buy it back if you plan on keeping it, OR buy it back and part it out, normally you can buy them back for about 10-20% of your book value, BUT if you have no interest in keeping the car long term, if it has any frame damage, or if you dont want to part the car out, then DONT keep it, buy another car.

ive been doing salvage title cars for about 5 years now, ive purchased atleast 25 vehicles, only 5 have been parted out, the rest were simple fixes, easiest fix was a car that was keyed over both doors, fenders, and rear quarter panels, book value on the car was only $3,000, so the insurance company totaled it because a good paint job will cost 80% of book value, i paid $500 for the vehicle, and sold it for $1800, the person who bought it just needed a good running car and didnt care about the paint damage.

its all in what your going to do with the car.

Id say don't bother fixing and get another car. This is a good chance to get something different if you're bored of the maxima.

everyone has ignored the tranny issues with the 2005 5 Speed, so should that not be deciding factoring whether I'm going to keep it or not. I mean it's at 97k i thought that's when they start acting up...

Yep, the 250 is slow. I'd rather buy a 5.5 gen 6 speed or a 350Z HR instead.

Both rides are nice you can't go wrong with either of them.

Take the money and get something else! Less headaches that way. Good luck!
