Maxima/Altima confusing annoying
#43
As long as the 8th generation Maxima is far different from the current generation Altima we'll be in good shape. When you make them nearly the same horsepower and with nearly the same dimensions it throws people off. The Altima should have 270 while the Maxima should be in the 300-350 horspower range.

ive had my old 5th gen confused for an altima before as well. I can understand the 6th gen confusion, the cars are pretty close styling wise. but a 5th gen?
this is from people working at body shops and garages too...
im thinkin its more to do with how ALL of nissans cars have similar names. theyre confusing the name, not the car itself in the lineup.
'is the really nice nissan the altima? or the maxima?...maybe the sentra? the *** is the versa?'

Dude I feel you on that because Sentra and Versa throws me off a little bit too. You don't know which one is bigger and smaller it's a bit complicated. They're about the same size like the Maxima Altima one is just a a little bit heavier and a little more HP. Oh now you gotta be smoking something to get the Maxima and Altima before 02 mixed up back then they were way different. The Maxima in 01 had 222 and the Altima had 150HP. The Altima and the Maxima were far apart before 2002 so that's when everything was more in place.

Had this happen at the gas station a couple of days ago. Had a guy, in an Altima pull up behind me and say "Nice Altima", I was like dafuk, you're IN an Altima and you still confused my Max for one. I could maybe understand if I had debaged the rear, but it actually says MAXIMA on the rear.

It's definetly time for a redesign basically right now the 7th gen the blogs, articles on the internet, even some youtube comments on them all people say is the Maxima is dead or they don't like this gen this that. It's sad because I drove a 2013 SV and it was so nice but this gen just doesn't seen to be cutting it. It has to be wider longer more power than the Altima different in every way.

I can understand that what I liked about the 3rd gen Altima and 6th gen Maxima they were both nearly the same size but they felt like two completely different cars. If you drove either one you clearly felt a difference. By 2007 the 4th gen Altima not only looked like the 6th gen Maxima but felt like a smaller one the Maxima is just a tad bit smoother heavier (feels like a big Lexus)

When they kept my SL at the dealership for a week to do the timing chain They gave me a loaner 2010 Altima 2.5S. I wanted to be back in my ride bad. I missed it I didn't like that Altima it was just different! That CVT was about to drive me crazy. It sound like 100 year old bees bzzzzzzzzz zzz zzzz.
Was very impressed with the power and . . . . to my amazement the CVT.
And I drive a stick. (Edit: I didn't mean I would give up the stick for the CVT before anyone pounces on that).
No bee or buzz sound.
I think it is overpriced, but really enjoyed the car overall.
Also have an 06 3.5 Altima and enjoy the torque of that 3.5. Completely different drive than my 3.0.

Oh in the 7th gen the CVT is great and quiet just doesn't quite work out for the Altima 2.5. it's funny because I got the opportunity to test drive a 2013 SV loved it, but the size of it was killing me that back seat is too tight. The handling and refinement is amazing. Alot of guys around here used to point out that the 6th gen is a boat and I hate to admit it but i'm starting to get tired of that feel around curves. I don't know what I might need to do better sway bars are what.

That too when you fly around curves you lean in the seats man I noticed that. When I first got it It didn't really bother me much but after a while it starts to get annoying. What it lacks in handling this car makes up in ride quality that's one of its greatest assets.
