OK, Who Bought One? What do you think?
4DSC Its True!
Traded a 2009 Avalon limited for my 2010 Max Sv Premium +tech + Nitro filled tires and not looking back. Toyota has gone downhill while Nissan remains a driver's car. My Maxima is true pleasure to dive and can't wait to drive my Max everyday. The dual moon roofs is a unique touch. Engine and ride performace makes lives up to the 4DSC label!

Man, did you ever dodge a bullet. The Avalon just yesterday became one of the cars Toyota has stopped all sales on because of the 'runaway' throttle problem. Avalons from model year 2005 through 2010 cannot be sold by any dealer or rented by any car rental service. Toyota still thinks the gas pedal is involved. NO WAY. This is so obviously an onboard computer software problem, and has been from day one. Sometimes I wonder how car company engineers can fail to see what is so obvious.

67whitegoat, be nice to lightonthehill! He just goes to bed late! No insomnia here. Though I know its like most of his posts are after midnight! But I couldn't help but laugh. Then I realized too his screen name is "light on the hill"! Now, you know he stays up all night if he is the light on the hill!
Really sorry to hear about the deaths caused by the toyota pedals getting stuck! Come to think of it how I was torn between buying a 08 Camry SE V6 and the 08 Maxima SE. I am glad the sales guy pissed me off at Toyota, forcing to go drive a Maxima and I was sold! Though it took me about 8 days before I could close on my Max.
I had to put up my 03 Camry SE on sale that same day I test drove my Max. I never was going to trade in my Camry, because all the different dealerships were not giving me anything! So, was luck to find a buyer and what I got for my Camry, used half for down payment on my Max

Just picked up mine (2010 Dark Slate S) over the weekend and got the national lease deal that had been advertised $329 /month w/ $2999 down. I ended up going to Courtesy Nissan in Richardson and the experience was about what I expected. I checked out each dealer on the BBB and Courtesy Nissan was rated a C, which was the highest rated here in the DFW area. Many of the others had F ratings and one other one got a D. Yikes!
I called in before hand and told them the VIN of the car that I wanted and also that I wanted to take advantage of the advertised lease deal. They really didn’t do any haggling after I mentioned the lease deal . After that, I went in and did the test drive and shortly thereafter did most of the paperwork. I had to wait about 3 hours to get into the financing office because they were way backed up and only had 2 guys handling the financing (ugh!). Of course, they tried to offer the clearcoat protectant and stainguard junk / dent protection / blah blah blah that would bring the lease price up to $420 /month....um no thanks.
Overall, I am VERY happy with the new maxima. I haven't ran it real hard yet because I want to give the engine at least a little time to break in (it only had 11 miles on it when I signed the paperwork). So far, I am very impressed with the engine responsiveness and handling. I also realized yesterday that I had 35% dealer installed tint on all the side and rear windows, which was a nice little surprise.
The car I had before this was a '04 Maxima SE manual and I cannot believe the difference in interior quality between the two. I miss rowing my own gears a bit, but sometimes it can be a leg workout in the Dallas traffic. I've also done a few u-turns and LOVE the tighter turning radius! If you've owned the previous Max, you know what I’m talking about.
To wrap up this short story turned novel that I am writing, I took my 04 Max to Carmax and they bought it from me for $9500, which really surprised me. I researched through KellyBB and it estimated that it would be worth $8200 in pristine condition and $7500 in "good" condition, which is what I figured the condition that it was in. I had some tint that needs to be redone, not all the tires are matching, and it has had body work due to my apartment complex’s automatic gate closing into my passenger side door.
So overall, the deal worked out pretty darn well and I couldn’t be happier with my new Max!

No. I'm up most of the time 24/7, but often find 'QWERTY' (or some mixture of letters and numbers) imprinted on my forehead. My wife says that is caused by my head resting on the keyboard when I drift off while I'm on the net. Surely she is wrong?
Finally! I officially drank the Kool-Aid (Mmmmmmmmmmmm....), brought home my maxima. Took it easy on the drive home but just was loving the ride! A BIG step up from my galant, just programed the home link to the "Bat Cave". Taking tomorrow off just to try to learn as much about the features as I can going to take pics with it bare. Then when I get my tints and rims on it.

Good analogy. Thanks for the kind words. I hadn't thought of that late hours connection. Actually, the 'lightonthehill' came from a speech made in 1836 by a member of the North Carolina state legislature praising 'that light on the hill' (the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - my alma mater) as a beacon of light in a sea of darkness.
I have bad news for those with loved ones driving Toyotas. This situation is very serious, in that there are millions of involved Toyotas out there in people's garages and driveways.
Many of those are owned by older folks (Camry and Avalon are very popular with older folks) who have NO BUSINESS driving a car that could potentially run amok. You and I know to quickly throw the car in neutral, steer to the side of the road and turn the ignition off. But older folks should not be expected to handle that type crisis. That highway patrolman driving a Lexus in California a year ago had several miles of freeway in which to think this problem through and avoid catastrophy. He couldn't, and four died.
Within a week (or less), I fully expect Toyota to announce that this problem also affects most Lexuses as well. This problem caused a Lexus driven by an 80 year old woman at the local nursing home (where my wife exercises three days a week) to run wild OVER A YEAR AGO, striking EIGHT cars before she could turn the key off. A representative of Toyota flew in, examined the car, and said the problem was the car, not the driver.
The truly frightening thing here is that, even if Toyota came up with a solution this week, how many years would it take to fix millions of cars? Cars that will be on the highway almost every day, carrying drivers scared each day could be the day it all goes terribly wrong. And when it does, drivers of all cars nearby are at great risk.
This situation is probably going to help sales of Hondas, Nissans and Fords, but what a terrible way to gain sales.
The only hope I see is that the problem may well be in the software INSIDE THE GAS PEDAL (yes, 'drive-by-wire' Toyoyas have software in their gas pedal), in which case, if Toyota can find a fix, it may be possible to replace the gas pedals in Toyotas as fast as Toyota can produce good ones. But that is a 'best case' scenario. The problem might be much worse to fix.
In the meantime, people will die, and that is sad.
On the 2AM news this morning - Toyota has announced they are expanded their recall to vehicles sold in Europe and China.
Also, they have a new gas pedal they hope will fix part of the problem. Unless it includes software changes, I'm convinced the problem is still there.
I feel they have been very dishonest by not going ahead and announcing that Lexus vehicles are also affected. Many of the over 2,000 incidents of runaway vehicles and over 20 deaths associated with this problem were in Lexuses.
There has been a foot-dragging and lack of openness from Toyota since this problem first made the news ALMOST TWO YEARS AGO. By the time this problem has been completely fixed (sadly, that probably won't be very soon), I feel the criticism of Toyota for their evasiveness will become a national uproar that ends up in Congressional hearings.

Yes they are, and I am loving it. Feels so nice to be in it, and I can tell the difference now when I am driving my galant. From the body style to the nice features. I have been complimented on the Max and haven't been anywhere but from the detail to the tint shop and home!
i'm enjoying lookig at the haunches throught the side mirrors while driving.. but not for too long of course lol
one thing tha i am starting to get annoyed at is while making a phone call , do i always have to listen to all the options of what to say? is there a way around that?

I have been converted!! After having a Mercedes '04 CLK430 AMG and then a '07 Cadillac CTS-V, I test drove the '10 Maxima because a co-worker said I should. The styling is fantastic. The performance is on par with the other cars I was looking at. The hook, CVT!!! The test drive was awesome. The direct feel of the engine/CVT combo is the most fun I've had in quite some time (driving a car
). I promptly ordered a Super Black ext.,Black Int. Premium & Technology pkg. It is supposed to arrive on 02/06/10. Just a couple more days to wait.

69copo - Nice first post! Welcome to the board. We expect to hear about your experiences with your new baby. Like you, I have taken a liking to this newly-redesigned Maxima CVT. Tomorrow should be an exciting day for you!
aching thighs
Today I passed the 1000 mile mark, so i guess i am officially broken in. Overall I enjoy the SV a lot. But I am stricken by how much the car feels like the 1998 Dodge Intrepid that it replaced. I kind of feel like cars have not evolved much in 12 years.
I dont have the premium package, just the basic SV, Not pleased with the bottom seat cushion. The thigh bolsters are like cement. I am a larger guy, but not fat. the bolsters are going to take some getting used to. However the ergonomics of the seat back and head restraint are fine. The shoulder room is excellent.
Still wondering if I care about XM radio....probably not. TPMS faullt since my drive home from the dealer.....need to get that fixed. Ordered a cargo net for the trunk. the color of the turn signal light on the instrument cluster is an unsettling shade of green/yellow. and all the orange displays are .....i dont know what to say.
but i am not complaining......it does what i need it to!

djmessing, i had the fault light on my 2010 sport, i picked it up after the service department closed. I took it in the next day and they had to reprogram the sensors to the computer. 15 mins and I was out the door. Give the car a chance, it's an awesome car and it'll grow on you in no time. Good Luck
Newbie my first post.
Long Island.
Have owned 2010 SIlverSVsport with back up camera for 24 hrs paid $30200 camera is an unexpectid delight.getit if you can.
Love the car so far. Some caveots to get used to..Every time I look at it I am like HOT!!!!.. really wanted white girlfreind liked silver(sucker).would have consider jade and blacked it out if I had seen the one members photos on this site first.
I actually think I like silver over white now though shows no dirt.too .Will tint windows 35% as per tinters reccomendation as I have never had tint.
Are sadly selling my 97SE max neptune blue(purple) tan leather fully loaded 136K fair cond.I am gonna miss this car.Its a hard break up but my new girlfreind is so oooomuch hotter and younger I am sure I'll forgrt her soon.
I have alot of questions about functions and stuff.Anyone available to coach me.Is there a section for this on the site?
My MPG estimater started with 5-7 mpg is sayng 10 -12 now Does this change.Tank estimated miles seems realistic at 310-325.
What nosises are normal and not CVT seems grumbly.
Do you relly have to break it in 1200 miles cause I can't wait a month to stomp on her. I already have.

djmessing - I got the TPMS light a few months ago, checked and found the unseasonably bitter weather had taken my hot summer psi and dropped it around six pounds, triggering the warning light. I pumped the tires back up to 36 psi (the psi I have always tried to keep in my Maxima tires), and about five miles of driving with the new pressure and the light went out, and has never returned.
MAXIMUMBS - Woah! One thing at a time!
First, you are indeed on the right board to get help on anything related to your new Maxima. You would definitely be helped by just scanning through the threads here. There are threads specific to almost any Maxima issue.
The 2010 Maxima is a vastly different animal than your faithful '97 SE. Cars are now an electronic jungle. The ONLY really good way to get up to speed is to read the owner's manual. Yes, it is very long and sort of boring. But the answer to almost any question you might ask is in there. But we have posters here who have never opened their manual, and get all their info here, so you can probably get by either way.
As far as MPG, don't even think about that until you are fairly familiar with the car. MPG sometimes changes early in a car's life, anyway. Three clues: First, NEVER let your Maxima run out of fuel, unless you have lots of cash for a new catalytic converter, fuel pump, etc. Second, there will usually be four of five gallons left in the tank when the needle approaches empty (this is partly because the fuel pump is in the gas tank, and depends on staying immersed in fuel in order to not overheat), and third, fuel mileage cannot be measured in terms of 'miles per tankful', as there are far too many variables. Miles per gallon is the only meaningful measure.
Glad to have you aboard, and look forward to your posts and questions.

Fuel MPG help
Thanks Light,
I'll try to keep questions manageable.
Unfortuatly I speak supper fast and usually way to much content in one though/breath as well. ha hah.
Prior to post ,I already found an answer to a question acidently regaurding skipping the annoying phone instructions you have to wait through. It was buried in a non topic thread.on target.
Your comments were very helpful.I apreciate that.
I have a patent on and build aeropspace fuel tubing and though it was calculated via a flow metere in stream and was an instant calculatoin that would average over time.
I.E When in cruies control I hoped it can tell me what MPG that speed affords me as to when I stomp it.
I though I needed to call dealer to reset the computer.
From your posts and response It Sound like you are a technical guy right up my ally.
Are you sure youlook forward to my questions. HAHA
Am and will be reading the manual even though I never read directions. As you said theres a lot of electronic stuff to know.
Oh MAXIMUMBS is for(alota) brilliant silver as in cars collor but I realized its acctualy called radient silver.Oh well. Its just a thread name.
We can asume I meant alota BS as in Bull S**T instead
Thanks.

MAXIMUMBS - Silver is a very nice color. In fact, I have owned many silver cars, including four silver Maximas. Of course the silver gets a different name with each generation Maxima.
The various fuel consumption displays in our 7th generation Maxima are useful, and several folks here on the ORG have delved into this, run some checks and found they are fairly close to being accurate. They are not exact, but are certainly close enough to give a very good idea of our mpg.
Being old-fashioned, I use the 'miles driven divided by gallons used' method, and do this over at least a three tank run before feeling I have a really accurate MPG. Not that having a 'really accurate' number means much. All we really need to know is our approximate MPG.
Cruise control will get better fuel efficiency than stomping it, But will get worse efficiency than a driver who can see ahead, anticipate climbs and pick up a little momentum to help with the climb (cruise control can't do that). A driver can also allow the speed to drop during the climb (cruise control will drop to a less fuel-efficient lower gear to maintain speed or, with the CVT, go to a higher, less fuel-efficient rpm). The greatest advantage of a driver over cruise control is in hilly country, where the cruise control actually holds the car back on downslopes, wasting fuel, and killing all momentum for the upcoming climb.
But I am rambling here. Sorry.

Just got my sv-sport yesterday and it just exceeded my expectation. Such a great overall car, I couldnt ask for more right now. The only thing Im worried about is keeping it clean in this horrible Ny weather.
Congrats! The roads aren't better over here in NJ- extra salt and potholes these days. Just be careful about where you leave it, as the sport rims are a hot item.
2010 SV
Just got a 2010 SV with Monitor Package and Cold Package. I felt this gave me most of the amenities of the Premium and Tech Package (without Navigation) and saved me some $$. Also, this way I got the Split fold-down Seats which the premium package does not have.
I came out $6300 below MSRP + 0% for 60 months.
MSRP: 35,300
Invoice: ~32k
Paid: 29k
Anyone else got SV with Cold/Monitor packages?

didnt want to make a new thread maybe some of u guys know the answer.. when i play my ipod it takes a good 3 mins to load up and sometimes not even reconize my ipod at all. I have to unplug and wait another 3 minutes before it actually plays, but then i have to go through all the steps of going to the playlist i was listening to before. Is there any solution to keep the ipod working functional all the time?
I think this thread pretty much covers the problems...
I don't think a solution is out for this yet..

I know you readers are all Maxima fans and owners. I am too actually, having a 2005 SE. I am considering a new 2010 fully loaded one and have a couple of questions. Maybe you can provide some guidance. The 2005 uses regular gas. I haven't noticed any problems with acceleration or anything. My understanding is the 2010 needs Hi test. What are drawbacks to regular gas? Middle grade?
thanks

I personally would stick with premium except for the fact I unfortunately live in an area where midgrade can cost 30 cents a gallon more than regular, and premium can cost 60 cents a gallon more than regular. Because of that insane price gouging, I plan to permanently drop down to midgrade this summer (at which point, I will have been using premium for 18 months). Although the 6th gen could run fairly well on regular, I absolutely would not use regular in these 7th gens.
The premium fuel statements from Nissan regarding the 7th gen are much more insistent than for the 6th gen. A few 7th gen owners have switched to midgrade, which seems to work fine, but Nissan says that if we are stuck in a place that has only regular, we should put in only enough gas to get to a pump where a higher grade is available, and not to do any hard acelleration enroute.

so the lesson here, is DO NOT EVER fill up your 7th gen Maxima with regular and unless absolutely necessary; I can't wait to get premium back in this baby because it terribly needs it; I too have heard people having no problem using mid-grade but I wouldn't take the chance and I know that the price difference between Shell Plus and Shell Premium around where I live is only 10-15cents so your not saving hardly anything by going with Plus! I'd rather baby my Maxima and give her premium!

I bought a 2010 Maxima S in black.
The car is pure sex in person. I love to just look at it. With my previous car, I didn't care what it looked like or what anyone thought of it. With this one, I feel like I'm on display and love it.
Some general commentary:
Because of the sloping hood, the Maxima feels larger behind the wheel than my old Malibu despite similar dimensions. The car shrinks when the speeds rise, and I've been shocked at the traction difference between high-performance all-seasons and cheaper alternatives.
The dash doesn't tilt with the steering wheel, so if you prefer having a reclined seat and the wheel in your lap, you'll cut off the top quarter of the gauges.
There's no good way to mount a radar detector without hard-wiring it. The reach from the nearest outlet to the windshield puts too much strain on the curly cable of my Escort. Since my car doesn't have navigation, I use a Garmin with a suction mount attached to the audio screen. This doesn't appear to do damage or leave residue, though it does obscure the climate control status.
My car, delivered with 40 miles on the clock (35 driven by dealership staff from a neighboring dealership) has an interior rattle at 1200 RPM and a very subtle pull to the right. The latter could be a tire pressure issue or the staff driver could have hit a pothole. I don't know, but the dealership said they'd fix it. The rattle is intermittent and all the more annoying because I can't pin down where it's coming from. I also had the front cupholder cover fall off one track and get stuck in the closed position. This required some abusive wrestling to get it back on the tracks.
The front seats are comfortable, though the side-bolstering toward the bottom was designed for fat people. My sides don't touch them at all, which makes the seat feel less secure and sporting. I was pleased to discover the base seats have effective lumbar support.
The splash guards are non-functional as equipped from the factory. When it rains, I have to wash the car again.
Mileage is as much or as little as you want. I've run the car with 89 and 93 octane. The power difference is subtle. The mileage difference, about 1 MPG. In mixed driving with a fair bit of high-speed highway, I saw an average of 21 MPG over two tanks. Constant heavy acceleration will put the average in the teens. The trip computer is pessimistic by 1.5 MPG. On one boring trip, I tried to maximize highway fuel economy. Over 40 miles, I averaged 58 MPH and 33.5 MPG with the CVT in Ds and 6th gear. The MPG gauge has the annoying effect of making me treat this sports sedan like a Prius.
My dad praised the car's limo-like ride. I think he may have been taken in by the appearance, I find it to be noticeably stiffer and more alive than my old Malibu. It feels a bit too willing to turn at highway speeds; I think the front wheels would benefit from just a touch more negative camber.
Oh yeah; it's deceptively fast. I got a speeding ticket for over 80 when I was fiddling with the cruise control while trying to set it to 74. That'd be the first one in four years. Watch your right foot.

I just picked up my '10 Maximan white with black interior, sport pack with monitor package. I've only driven it for about 70 miles so far, has 110 total so it is still in the newness factor. My dealership allowed me to take for longer test drive alone. We bought my wife's Sentra there so they were good then. It is a big step up for me so my comments will be pretty raw. I've alwasy had compacts or sub-compact and got rid of my '06 Mini cooper for the Maxima. So I really can't compare but I know we will taking this car on the longer road trips due to the comfort. The Thigh suppor pull out I can see being utilized on the longer trips. Heated stearing will can actualy get a little to warm at first until it stablizes. Everything else is just awsome.
Price... let just say that with my work VPP discount, 4.3% below dealer invoice, no haggle price.
Will post more when I more time driving it but so far it is great.
