I lived in the hood my whole life and on my third car and never had any vandalism of any sort. Because vandalism happens at random it can happen to anyone just do what you got to do to ensure it doesn't happen to you.

You're right! It's random. Doesn't matter where you live. This is my 6th car, and my number finally came up. So many people I know have had car's stolen, or broken into, I was kind of wondering when it was going to be my turn.

Sorry to hear about that, but I'm glad that you got your baby back. I always wonder why some idiots lose their life for a set of wheels. We all know that what goes around come around, so one day or another those idiot will do jail time and that will screw up their life for a good while, so big time.

ooh chit! Thats screwed up. you live in a nice area too. I would assume living in a nicer area could help to subtract you from the masses that are unfortunately subject to these crimes. Especially being gated, and if this is the 2+ time. They need to install cameras, period.

I cant remember if you said you got wheel locks before but please get some wheel locks now. My car is worth pennies compared to your but I put her in the garage. Sometime you can never trush where you live.

Be safe!

I would be really upset if that happened to me too. I would also be heartbroken and can understand your pain. Hopefully, that'll never happen again. I'm serious about the garage though, they won't steal what they can't see (one would think).

Garage is a good idea...but you can't keep it 24/7 in the garage. If it is meant to happen, it will happen. I am sorry for your loss. I use to keep the 02 in the garage all the time. I was paranoid, that they would steal her and I lived in a really nice area, but use to work in not so safe area. Nothing happened to her for 5 yrs that I was working there. The more public the area, less likely it will happen.

OMG that really sucks! Wow. That got me thinking...I just bought the 09 model, but I didn't upgrade the wheels (kept the 18" stock rims). I never thought someone would want to snag those, but they do contain new tires (and the rims are pretty cool, too!). I'm going to swap the wheel locks from my old VW to the new Max. I think lug nuts are standardized across all cars?

No lock can stop a WHEEL THIEF. Its there job to be good at it. Same reason why top mechanics use snap-on tools, they do the job. Check out this post from awhile back.

PS Check out the Pamolive soap in the picture, expensive wheels cheap soap

This is the worst part

What comes around, goes around.

Things can only get better from here. (Knock on Wood).

Good luck and invest in atleast two different sets of wheel locks.

I'm wondering if I've covered my bases enough... I have McGaurd locks with spline drive nuts... spline drive should deter the regular passer-by but not a professional. The locking nuts seem to be pretty good, I don't see how you could get something to lock onto them when they are recessed deep into the rim holes. Then agian, I've never tried.

It sounds like you've upgraded your "security system" compared to what you originally had. Time will tell. Good luck.

I saw one of these on the road in brooklyn the other day...

I used to work in Queens NY around Astoria and I used to see Maxima's on blocks almost daily. Over in the College point section there were blocks on one side with 2 rims missing and the headlights. I remember saying I would never get a Max for the same reason but oh well. Just keep your car in a safe location. You live in CT so parking in garages is cheap compared to NY. I always pay even when I had a lessor cars. Its easier to pay $10-25 for parking then to have to wonder what important item was in your car if it was stolen or waiting for a tow truck, police, and a ride home if you get blocked. But that me, I trust no1.

What about Volk Racing Formula Lug Nuts?

- Full floating head which prevents scratching your wheels
- Unique body shape
- Made from high quality Chrome Manadium
- 7 sided hectagon shape with a special internal drive. Each lug features a removable allen cap. Included keys allow removal of the cap and lug nut.

Basically, if someone tries to steal you wheels, not only do they have to remove the allen cap for each lug, the have to remove the lug itself. That is 40 pieces to remove instead of the average 20 items to remove.

No idea if these are any good just came across them...

Wow those are intense... and are also $380 haha.

I may throw another set of locks on there so there are 2 per wheel. I do like those spline-drive nuts though, they have the same type of floating head as the Volks so they don't scratch and get a more accurate torque.

Here is the what I got from a tire shop in the Bronx. "Once we put our lock socket in its gone" He showed me the socket which seems to be custom by needs and in his store he needs it to remove all type of locks when people cant find them and they have a flat. He said he hammers the socket in and the torque does the rest. I showed them a picture of these and he said the are nice but the space around the actual socket is there down fall. He said that all locks are of the same diameter which is why they can all be removed. After being in the business for over 32 years he said if if the lock was similar to that used on utility boxes we would have less theft. His design which he said would be larger in diameter down to millimeters of space left around the lug nut would eliminate his tool. Adding a in socket depth lock and a exterior lock would mean the rim would have to be broken off to be removed. He also said that the same people who sell these nice locks sell keys to anyone. The best lock is insurance make sure you have it and for those of you who purchased nice aftermarket wheels make sure your insurance is aware and will cover them in the event of any type of loss.

Thanks for that insight... I called the insurance company as soon as they were on the car and they said make sure you have pictures and recipts and you're all set.

These spin so attaching to the outside won't help. You first have to remove the center before you can actually get at it. As with everything nothing is thief proof this will just delay the true professional and make the rest walk away.

The expensive locks look really good and seem to actually stop the average scout from picking on your car. I will keep my stock since and stock locks. As long as the insurance is paid I'm good.
