Well, I talked to a buddy of mine from Michigan and he has seen ice scratch up a car's paint like that. I am hoping to clean it up tomorrow (if the snow is melted away) and take a little better picture without all the nasty dirt and grime on it.

Try to find one from a salvage yard. Some after market body parts don't fit very good. You get what you pay for with the new parts and sometimes not even that. With a used part, you know it will fit....it's already been on a car.

There will be very few (if any) '10 Maxima bumper covers in salvage yards this soon, but the '09 Maxima bumper should be exactly the same. I would bet the '09 and '10 bumpers have exactly the same part number.

I have a question for you guys. I've owned a 2009 Maxima S for a while now and it wasn't until recently that i noticed that if i do not put on my seat belt, the light will flash but there is no warning sound. Is that the standard now or is there suppose to be the warning sound? Thanks for your help.

If I don't put my '09 Maxima driver's belt on, I get five soft 'dings'. They are clearly audible. If I buckle my belt before the five 'dings' are finished, the 'dings' immediately stop.

If I am not mistaken, this audible alert is a federal requirement, and would automatically be warranty-covered as a safety issue.

Hey guys I have 450 miles on my 2010, my question is I ran into a situation where I was on the highway and had to really step in it to avoid a crash. The tach reached about 7k do I need to worry about this seeing it's not broken in yet ?

Thanks Justin

Your car is toast. You would have been better off enduring the crash.

Just kidding. What happened to you was definitely not good. A lot depends on two things:

1 - Was your engine fully warmed up at the time? If so, your engine has a good chance of not being harmed. If you had pulled out of your driveway with the engine cold minutes before this happened, this could have (but not necessarily) done damage to your engine.

2 - Luck. You may be unlucky, and have this result in something like a noisy engine, a smoking engine, an oil burning engine, an engine that tends to miss, etc, etc.

Nissan makes wonderful engines, and I like your engine's chances of getting through this without real problems. Working in your favor is the fact this was a one-time event of very short duration. Just be very careful during the rest of the break-in period, keep an eye on your gauges and check your oil level for a day or two, then weekly for a month. If it remains steady, that is a good sign. I think your engine will probably be just fine.

Let us know how this turns out. Our fingers are crossed.

Justin, I am no expert, but I promise you, NOTHING is wrong with your car. Be more thankful Nissan engineers gave it that extra power that you used to avoid a crash. So, glad you are safe. Know the car saved you from a crash and will always save you if you need to step on it to avoid other crashes. But always be prudent on the highway.

Lightonthehill has thrown a lot of light on the issue. But the final result is no harm to your engine. So, drive safely.

Thankyou also lightonthehill
yes the engine was all warmed up and I only had to push it for about 4 seconds deff not to happy about it but car sounds and feels the same , before this happened it's never been above 2000 rpms. On a plus note though coming from a track edition Z I was happy with the pick up it had : )

Does anyone on here have any issue with condensation buidlup in their taillights? I have had the right taillight replaced due to condensation and the right one is beggining to show water droplets on the inside on the housing? Anyone else have this problem?

Someone on the 5th gen board had this problem about ten years ago, and I seem to recall one or two posters with this problem on the 6th gen board about five years ago. But the only condensation problem I remember seeing here on the 7th gen board was a headlamp assembly.

Unless you had the assemblies open to replace the bulbs, the only cause I can think of is that the tail light assembler on duty when your Maxima went down the assembly line was still weak from the previous night's drunk, and did not tighten things to the right torque. Florida is a very warm and humid state, and anything not completely sealed there will collect moisture.

Well I made it down to Nissan to talk to a close friend who's also a long time mech for them told him about having to really step on it and should I worry, he simply smiled and said as long as the engine was warm no need to worry at all . The only thing he did say was make sure you go easy on the breaks during the break in , due to warping the rotors. Thought I'd let you all know what I learned .

I am relieved to know your mechanic agrees with PetitFrereMaxima and I in that, since your engine had been warmed up before this happened, you should be fine.

He is also absolutely right about the brakes. I intentionally take short drives to fairly deserted areas soon after I purchase a car, and do a series of very gentle stops. Then I let the brakes cool for awhile, then repeat with another series of gentle stops. I do that same thing several times a week for a few weeks, all the while being very careful to try to avoid any situation where sudden, hard braking might be needed. I also check and torque every lug on every wheel to 80 foot pounds (yes, I realize the Owner's Manual says 85). This seems to avoid the glazing or warping of rotors that used to be a problem for me.

A careful breakin can go a long way in reducing later problems.

Ahhhhh so there's the reason you only torque them to 80 foot pounds I've seen you mention before that your setup is a little different from the norm , as for you idea of light breaking somewere quiet I deff agree , very good idea .

There is a multi-page sticky thread here named 'Who Has Rims . . . etc'. I would imagine lots of good info on rim choices would be found there. I know if I was looking at rims, I would hit that thread hard.

2010 Music Box Oddity

I have a new '10 loaded. Love it. On my 4th Maxima. The Music Box play mode will not "allow" normal or random. They are greyed out and only the other 3...album repeat, track repeat, and another that skips my mind are available. Sometimes if you exit out of music box it will let you select "normal" play mode but it goes back to one of the repeat modes. I showed the techs and they didn't know what to make of it. Thoughts?

Hey everybody, I have about ~750 miles on a 2010 Nissan Maxima. I tend to take short trips around town with it ie. to work/gym/yada yada yada. Lately I've been noticing after I turn the car off a 'tinking' noise coming from the engine. I've heard this noise before with older cars I've driven but wouldn't expect it from a newer model. Is this a problem I should be worried about, am I doing something wrong, should I be attempting to fix this...? I figure since I don't take very many long distance trips It causes this to happen but I'm not sure what advice do you have?

Invizion, um, I suspect that "tink tink" noise you hear is quite normal. Your car's engine is made of various metals. Metals expand and contact when heated.... As it cools down is when you hear the various items contacting back to size.

Your lawnmower does this, your oven does this.

Relax. It's basic physics at work.

IPOD VIDEO ON 2010 MAXIMA -FULLY LOADED SPORT & TECH 0CRIMSON BLACK

As you guys know the 2010 max had dvd in the dash & also has support for ipod video(movie )playback.

When I first plugged in my ipod it asked me if I want to use the IPOD for Music & Movies. I selected just music (bad move on my part but was so excited in my new whip that I quickly slected music..) & now I cannot get back to that setting to change it to Video & music. I tried everything from just starting the car to "ACC" (only to see if I can get the setting back) to navigating the ipod settings to finally trying a different ipod . STILL NO LUCK!

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Compusmurf and 2-slo-5o are correct, of course. This ticking/clicking/creaking was especially noticable the first few months I had my '09, and even after 14 months, is still pronounced after a hard drive.

I have had this with other new cars in the past, and expect it to be on any I buy in the future. Different types of metals contract and expand at different rates, and where they are in contact with one another, a clicking/creaking will occur during cooldown. Normal.

My post of 1:45 PM pushed this post back where it may get overlooked. I'm not an ipod person, but someone here must know enough to help BDONBROOKLYN out with his question. Anyone?

BDONBROOKLYN, I never was prompted for that in my car. I have the monitor package, though, not the tech package. I would try searching through the owner's manual if you haven't already. I am actually going to go through mine now.

New to this forum - recently got a 2010 SV ocean gray metallic - my daughter's car broke down at night on a dark deserted area of the interstate. I was travelling about 1 hour away at the time - I had to reach her as soon as I possibly could - the road was quiet and I just had to get to my daughter - so I averaged about 90 MPH and actually found myself at 100 MPH for a bit - the car was smooth, tightly controlled, and had plenty more in reserve. Got to my daughter and all is well. I love my Maxima...

The good thing here is that, even at 100 MPH, this car is nowhere near the redline. In fact, it is probably nearer 4K RPMs, which is within the breakin limits we are supposed to follow for the first 1200 miles.

I'm glad everything turned out fine.

Maybe so, but I am required to "spout the party line". Please digress from discussing "breaking the law" in reference to speeding or any other illegal activities with your car.

I will not edit this post as is serves as a reminder to all the new folk about the rules and to keep folks out of trouble with the Admins (not just the mods)

Oh, and welcome to the forums!!!
