Yes they merged but are still different. For example my Sirius doesn't have certain xm channels and vise versa...

Radio won't mute when navigation talks. Did on my 2007 maxima

Thanks in advance for your help. I just purchased a 2011 maxima today. My last one was a 2007.

My question is, on the 2007 maxima, when using the navigation system, when the voice came on for a turn notice for instance, it automatically made the radio/music that was playing, almost mute so that you could hear the directions very easily.

Today on the new car, I tried using it and the radio did not mute at all. Is there a setting that I am supposed to set to have the sound go way down so that I can hear the navigation instructions?

This is very frustrating. I have read the manuals and also tried pressing settings, but can't figure out how to make it happen automatically.

If I am going to have to keep raising the volume of the navigation or lowering the volume of the radio, I am not going to be a happy camper.

Please help!!

Thanks,
Groz

mine lowers the music. but it sounds like it only affects the front speakers. do you have your speakers faded to the rear or something?

car addict,

Thanks for your reply. Hopefully, you are correct and where the speakers were set at was affecting the speakers. I didn't change anything as far as the balance or anything with the speakers yesterday. but maybe the default was doing it?

I will have to check later to see if maybe that was the problem. I will report back when I go out driving today.

Thanks,
Groz

Went to the Dship and asked if they had the 2012 Max and I have to admit I am impressed. The changes are subtle but yet noticeable when next to the others. Freaking clean, the rims didn't look butt ugly as I originally thought. They want me to test drive it later but got plans. But for sure I'm coming back to give it a go!

Don't forget there is a separate "volume control" for the Nav. Check that out and set it to a higher volume and I'm sure you will here the "overvoice" much better (while it doesn't mute the audio system, it does lower the volume a bit based on your Nav volume's settings.) I find it best to set the volume while the nav is "speaking" while traveling with the radio/cd/etc playing with the volume control on the steering wheel.

Does the Maxima have an interference engine? I ask because I believe the Maxima uses a timing chain, and if the chain breaks, it would ruin an interference enine...

I have a 2011 SV with the Monitor package. How difficult/expensive is it to replace the audio system with the OEM Nav/Audio system? With the Monitor, Bose audio system, and I'm assuming the antenna is also a GPS receiver, I would think I just need to replace the guts. Is this right? Can someone refer me to some instructions and part numbers?

Thanks,
Phil

I'm hardly new to my Max, but still have a question....

Is it possible to park the car and shut the engine off while still keeping the accessories on? Rebooting Bluetooth devices are a drag.

Thx

You have to remove the key and the information is inside the fob. But you will need a strong magnifying glass or better yet a jewelers loupe to be able to read the information. You can find the fobs on e-bay and may want to buy two while you are at it. As far as getting them programmed I know of no other place other than the dealer to do it. I had an extra one done for my Max as well as my wife's Murano. The charged me $50 to do it so it was not that bad.

Good luck with your quest.

Hi guys, been lurking for a while...

Bought a 2011 maxima back in january, but since I live in mexico we only had the SV available. Because of the security situation down here, I had the car bulletproofed and it holds up really good! it added about 500 kgs of extra weight and the car runs just as well as before it was bulletproofed. I have a couple of questions for you guys, don't know if someone could help me out with this.

Since I only got the SV package, is there anyway I could order the tech package online or from a US dealership and have my dealership down here install it? I want to be able to stream my music through bluetooth but haven't found a solution that doesn't disable me from being able to place calls through the in-car bluetooth system that does come with the SV. My second option would be getting this : http://www.icarkits.com/cars/NISSAN_...1/PODNIS2GV6BT but I haven't been able to find any reviews online.

My second question is this: Is it possible to use the amplifier for the 2 small basses behind the rear seat to power a third party amplifier? My 2 bass speakers had to be disconnected because of the bulletproofing and were sealed inside an iron plate box, so they are not an option anymore, but the other speakers in the car give of zero bass, so it sounds a bad and I am looking for a way to fix this. Specifically I was thinking about adding this bass: http://www.amazon.com/Bazooka-BTA102...0569504&sr=1-5

Thanks for the help... I tried searching for these but since I am in Mexico and the car is bulletproof I think I am in a pretty unique situation when it comes to the Maxima

contemplating buying 2011, couple questions

Hi, I'll be brief, can anyone tell me, will it have any impact at all on the warranty if I use synthetic blend oil, or dino oil, on the warranty? What about Nissan's recommendation to use premium fuel, can I use regular unleaded and be just fine with the warranty? thanks much, Kevin

Kevin - any name brand of synthetic blend, dino or full synthetic should have no affect on your warranty, as long as you have the oil hanged at appropriate intervals. There are many lube threads scattered around this board.

Using 87 octane regular unleaded is not a good choice. A few here on the ORG have found they can run their 7th gen using regular, but more of us have had probems with the engine running well with regular.

Nissan specifically tells us in the Owners Manual that if we can only find regular fuel, to take the smallest amount that will get us to where we can get the proper fuel, and to make no aggressive moves along the way. It wold be a shame to mess up this fine 7th gen Maxima engine by using the lowest octane fuel.

By contrast, 89 octane MIDGRADE works very well in the 7th gen Maxima, with no detectable loss of performance, and no change in MPG (as long as octane is close to the 91 octane the engine is set up for, octane does not affect MPG in the 7th gen Maxima).

I would urge you to avoid using regular unleaded in this engine. I also think it is counterproductive to alternate fillups between regular and premium fuel as some here do. Just stick with midgrade, and the engine will adjust to that, then never have to adjust again.

CHMSL cover?

So I added a spoiler to my '12 and disconnected the inside brake light.
I'd love to find a blank to put where the brake light is now, but haven't been able to find one.
Through extensive searches of this forum and other areas I found that technically they are called CHMSL Covers.

I checked a few parts sites, links from posts here and found one or two sites that say they have them - but not in my color.
I've even sent emails and am hearing back that they were discontinued.

Anyone have any idea where I can get one in cafe latte color?

Or maybe even some spare cloth so I could fabricate one?
I'm considering calling junkyards to see if they have any parcel shelves in that color and just replacing the whole thing!

Roof Rattle- please read

I am a new 7th gen owner and i was driving and heard these crazy rattles. I said holy sh*t i better not be having this issue. so i turned the music down and held the roof and all. it didn't stop. I had my niece with me and needless to say a 8 year old figured it out. long story short, it was the seatbelt twisted and hitting against the pillar. try to locate the issue next time you hear your rattles and creaks

I have Lumar and am pretty satisfied. They do have a product that you can put on the front windshield but, while it does really help on the IR heat transference I had to remove it as it added "glare" at night (not noticeable during the day but dang, it made my eyes strain at night.) Of course I had Suntek on my old ride and to be honest, the only noticeable difference I "felt" was in the amount of heat it let through....didn't seem to work as well as the Lumar but a few years can make a big difference in technology.

Hey guys, I have a question regarding the 7th gen maxima. I was wondering why the car seems to lose so much power after 80 mph? My 05 seemed to keep pulling, maybe its just me.. lol

New (used) Maxima owners... First Nissan EVER. Long line of corvettes, mustangs, and camaro's and after 3 days already hooked on the Maxima!

I have one question regarding the interior. The car did not come with floor mats and I am trying to order the correct ones. My interior is not the tan and I am confused as what would come as stock in my car. I have attached a photo bucket pic of the interior. The color doesn't seem to be tan or gray but a gray/tan if that makes sense... Thanks!

Panorama glass roof

I have a 2010 maxima premium package. I was wondering if anyone else has has this problem. My panorama roof makes noise right by the drivers door everytime I run over a bump. Even if it's a small bump. My roof makes noise. I took it to the dealer. They said if whatever is broken isn't covered under warranty. I would have to pay, and it would be expensive. I only have had the car about 8 months. What should I do??

2010 Maxima USB Port Broken

Hey everyone

I've searched high and low for someone that had a similar problem but I couldn't find anything, so here I am

I just purchased a 2010 nissan maxima sv, and everything is great but the usb jack (ipod input) is broken, nissan won't cover it under warranty since it's broken by human error... I really want to take it out of the car and attempt to fix it myself before I pay the dealer hundreds of dollars to try the same thing, I can't figure out how it comes out though, anyone with advice on removing this part? It's in the center console next to the AV(aux) jacks

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you

This is to prevent moisture buildup inside the car, which will often happen if we leave it in the recirculation mode. That moisture will form fog on the inside of the windows if the temp is cool outside the car, and that causes visibility problems.

We need to think of modern AC systems as true 'air conditioners' and NOT just the 'air cooling systems' they used to be. Modern vehicle air conditioners can be just as important in cold weather or humid weather as in hot weather.

Fortunately, modern vehicle AC systems have a very small effect on MPG, and are designed to be on much of the time. Modern ACs are not the power-sucking, MPG slamming systems of olden days.

Hey guys, my car is only 3 days old but I have a question. Every time I get in the car the climate control is turned off completely. I have to turn it on each time. Is there a way to set things so that it is set to automatic when I start the car? Winter is starting here and it would be nice to not have to turn it on each time

Congrats on your new car but I swear having to turn on my AC has never really bothered me. You still have to adjust the temp so whats the big deal in turning the **** a hair? To answer your ? I do not think it is possible. If your that worried just get an remote start and have the AC turn on with it.

I think you may be headed in the right direction. When I start my car, the HVAC system resumes whatever it was doing when I turned the car off.

This used to happen to me when I first go my car in the summer. Everytime I started my Max, I had to turn on my A/C manually although I used and setted it a few hours ago. I go tired of it so I brought it to the dealer and it turns out it was the climate control fuse. It was a 5 minute fix and didn't get charged. According to the dealer, it was a burned fuse. Since then, it's been working smoothly.
