I was wandering, perhaps the Maxima needs a high grade synthetic oil like Valvoline, Castrol, etc? Do you think this could be causing all this ridiculous amount of pinging/clinging sounds?

Again, I know its not the gas since I've used Shell Premium since the day I had the car so it can't be due to the fuel.

Any thoughts on the oil issue?
When I bought my SV last month, I was told that Nissan Ester oil is a must to avoid knocking/pinging noises. I thought they are full of it. From the factory, I'm assuming Ester came with it. Did u have the noise prior to the oil change? Ester oil is so freakin' expensive so I shopped around for Maintenance plan and got $1600 for Gold Premium. ALL the maintenace for 60month/75K. The 30K, 60K mile service alone is about 550 each here in the valley (Phoenix). Worth it if you ask me. You still can get it if your car is less than 12K mile.

You know, I'm not sure if it was there before the first oil change or not. I've just noticed it that last few thousand miles.

I wouldn't put any stock in that BS from Nissan that you have to have their oil. That is all a sales ploy to get you into the dealership so that they can charge you an arm and leg for changing your oil and filter. You would not believe how many different car manufacturers have tried this ploy on me over the years. GM was notorious for doing this. Are you trying to tell me that Nissan Service is the on the same level as GM
