Anyone run subwoofer wires in 7th gen?

Wondering if anyone on this forum has run larger gauge wire to their trunk in the 7th gen. I'm thinking about running 0 gauge this weekend (weather permitting). And just wondering what route others have taken if anyone else has done this yet. I havn't even looked at the firewall yet to determine the best place just looking for advice prior to starting.

Hey guy, I did 4-AWG to the trunk. If you have a look at the firewall, it's a total biatch to get in to. So, I just ran it along some fuel lines under the chassis with zip-ties. There are a crap load of rubber grommets (glands) in the spare tire compartment at your disposal to run it in to. I can't imagine running 0-AWG through the firewall will be a simple task. Oh, and I put another in-line fuse in the truck as well, in case I want to disconnect the power from the truck rather then under the hood. Just in case $hit should hit the fan!

Well, perhaps it isn't the smoothest move, however I have not had any issues with the vehicles I have done this with. I don't particularly cutting anywhere in the brand new ride.

If you were asking me, I didn't get to it this weekend as I had too much to do. It may have been the last time I had a chance to before spring due to the weather and lack of a garage. I may just have a shop run the wire, I already have the wire and can do the Amp/Sub install no problem. Call me lazy but I really don't like working that long in the cold.

On a side note anyone know if the stock head unit (non nav) has RCA out? I highly doubt it, but since it has a line in I never know. I already have a good line converter so I'll prob just splice into the rear deck speakers if not.

I will be installing 4 AWG to the trunk soon (its shipped and on its way, so as soon as i have some time I will be tackling it) I also ordered a Stinger Pro Firewall Grommet, and plan to drill my own hole and seal it with this grommet. I too get weary about drilling holes in a new car, but I think this will get the optimal result.

I am powering a JL Audio 8W7 with a JL 250/1 v2 amp, which are also on their way. Anyone know how to wire the RCA's with the JL amp? The manual makes it look like you just cut off one end of the RCA cables and splice them directly into the rear speakers. Is this true or do I need to use a converter?

Has anybody checked behind the driver's side fender liner? In my 07, I didn't have anywhere to run my 1/0 through the firewall w/o drilling. One day, I pulled my driver's side fender liner, and found a HUGE rubber grommet that allows the factory harness to pass into the cabin. I punched a hole in the lower portion of the grommet and used that to feed the 1/0 into the cabin. I'm not sure if the 7th gens are the same, but it would be worth checking before you take a drill to your new car.

Yeah the Russians really never had any problems with nuclear power until that whole Chernobl thing.....I doubt you really will have a problem, but remember, you can drop a lit cigarette into a can of gas and it won't explode, the gas will put out the cigarette....doesn't mean I'd advise trying it...

That's not exactly true. You can drop a cigarette into an open bucket of gasoline ( a small, but very important distinction). If there are any gas fumes trapped above the liquid, you're toast.

So I hear...

This morning I decided to finish running my 4 AWG wire to the trunk before the storm/blizzard hits. This picture is almost dead on. The difference is that the trunk popper cable is a little more up and to the right, which ended up being perfect for me. I was able to use a uni-bit right between the two penetrations to drill my 7/8" hole for my grommet (I used this one: Stinger). I reallllly didn't want to take out the intake to get to the back of the engine bay, so I did the ol' coathanger trick to fish the wire down the side of the engine bay. Ended up pulling the wire right up where I wanted it. It is really a nice path the wire takes, I was surprised at how easy it was. The hardest part was finagling the drill into the wheel well to drill the hole. Once you get the wire into the car, its as simple as following the stock wire loom to the trunk.

The massive grommet that is already in the wheel possibly could have fit my wire, but i didn't want to compromise its watertight-ness. My method worked fantastic, and that stinger grommet really seals things up nicely.

Now I just need to deaden the trunk with the Stinger Roadkill thats in my closet and I'll be good to go.... Stupid Winter...

the firewall is difficult because new cars are way to busy under the hood

Whatever works for you. I just followed the OEM wire bundle thru the firewall. It was a piece of cake from there.
