AEM Intake Confusion

AEM Intake Confusion

I was checking out intakes (yet again) and the AEM site doesn't have anything for the '09 or '10 Max. I decided to check on the '11 for sh*ts and giggles. This is what I saw:



Then I checked on the '12 and saw this:



What the hell???

So is there a difference between the '09-'10 versus the '11 versus the '12???

I like how they make sure to tell you that the hp gains were achieved on a similar vehicle.....

Stay away from it..."Sometimes an air intake will fit several vehicles or different years of the same model. In these cases it is not practical to test every application so our horsepower claims are based on similar vehicles where we believe the horsepower gains are reliable".....What year Max did AEM test this "so claimed" 10-18HP intake on?

So I emailed AEM and this is what they answered me with according to their R&D on the intake they offer for 7th Gen maximas, what do you think about it????

Hi,

Thank you for your interest in AEM.

The HP gain on the 2011 Nissan Maxima was tested on your specific application same size engine, 3.5 as shown on the dyno chart link below.

The statement below explains that some intake system kit fit more than one year and more than one engine size and the dyno chart provided reflects the most popular model or most reliable to get horsepower readings.

Here’s a sample
If you have a 2007 GMC 1500 classic 4.8 it uses kit 21-8000.
This kit fits 1999-2007 GMC and Chevrolet vehicles with 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0. Obviously they would have different HP gains depending on engine size and year model. Although they use the same kit computer programming for fuel and emission standards from year to year would vary HP output.
The dyno chart provided for this kit was for a 2003 Silverado 2500HD 6.0, since we find this model to be a reliable source of horsepower gain.

What's up guys. I'm the guy with the service engine light on from this intake. Kinda in the middle of the process of figuring out what they're gonna do to fix it, I'm trying to get them to re-make one of the parts right now (the one that holds the MAF sensor). They've actually been really cool to work with considering I'm the first one that's reported any problem to them. Their intake is pretty new to the market though. I expected them to just brush it off since it's the first complaint, but they're probably gonna cut, weld, bend, and paint a replacement part for me to test soon.

The 18 hp and then 10 hp thing is pretty funny. Lol. I seriously doubt that the AEM is any better or worse than the K&N or the r2c or the takeda or the injen or anything else. All just depends on how honest the marketing dept for each company wants to be about the gains if you ask me.

i got a takeda short ram and no warning signs for me i guess they just messed up something big time. Thats why best thing to get is Injen not sure if they make one for maxima though

Injen does. And if AEM doesn't figure it out for me, the injen intake will be what I get instead.
