Rebate
Good thing they did. The Maxima faces stiff competition from other makers in the price range. I would not have purchased my 2012 without the rebates. What surprised me is that in NY you have to pay sales tax on the rebate.
My SV was $31798 with the $3500 rebate..............Nothing I drove was even close except the G37X and 328 which are both at least 10k more
Same in Colorado... I too paid tax on the rebate which took me for a loop.
Thats similar to the state of Washington. If you buy a 2500 dollars tv at Costco and its advertized at 1500 dollars you pay sales tax on the 2500 dollars. The state is going to get its full tax rate this way. I noticed this was a new policy over the last couple of years when states were starting to feel the pinch because of the recession.
Absolutely... in fact I had printed out my numbers at home and based my OTD price without factoring in sales tax on the rebate amount. The Finance guy was even stumped and had the General Manager come in to confirm that tax is paid on the amount before the rebate.
Tax rates and charges on a vehicle differ by state and often by town. Edmunds.com states that 21 of 51 reported states do not charge tax on dealer rebates, based on an updated report from January 2011. Additionally, four states do not charge any tax for vehicle purchases.
States That Do Not Tax Cash Rebates
- Alaska
- Arizona
- Delaware
- Iowa
- Kansas
- Kentucky
- Louisiana
- Massachusetts
- Minnesota
- Missouri
- Montana
- Nebraska
- New Hampshire
- Oklahoma
- Oregon
- Pennsylvania
- Rhode Island
- Texas
- Utah
- Vermont
- Wyoming

Same. My father's owned every generation Maxima except 6th Gen (because they're ugly) and a 7th Gen (because they're overpriced). Currently he s got a 2010 Altima SE-R but looking a buy a Z.
OVERPRICED ? A left over 2012 S Limited Edition has a cars direct price of $25,151.................my dealer beat the cars direct price
You're a pretty shrewd guy (you got a great deal on your car) ... but you're asking the wrong question.
For every Maxima that you find being sold at an amazing price, I'll show you one that's being sold for, well ... not an amazing price (http://forums.maxima.org/7th-generat...-2012-max.html).
The point is that if you look at what (new) 7th Gen's are being listed for you'll quickly come to the realization that they're overpriced.
If you pay list they are way overpriced but few do. As far as being a schrewd guy I walked in with the cars direct price and asked them to match it, deal was done in 20 minutes.
I paid under the cars direct price because the car I priced ( and the price I paid) didn't have the monitor package or illuminated door sils and my car does.
The poster responded ( ABSOLUTELY) to my reply telling him you can get a 2012 for about $25, 151 being overpriced, not the MSRP
Exactly.
But if I wanted to sell you something that was really worth $25, what would I charge you? I wouldn't be charging $25. I'd list it at $40 and accept somewhere between $30-40. Now, of course, every car manufacturer/dealer does this, but (IMO) it's exacerbated with the Maxima. Even with a (up to) $4500 rebate, a 2013 Maxima is overpriced.
The problem isn't what you (or anyone else) paid for the car. The problem is the MSRP and invoice for each 2013 Maxima is overpriced, by about $5-10k. And that is the reason you're seeing a $4500 rebate.
Perhaps we're arguing about different points.

But if nobody is paying near msrp, then it is not overpriced. you say its 10K over, well thats what I recieved off of mine, and many of us did. I would argue the 7th generation is a bargain at the price most people are paying.
Exactly.

I wanted to get another Infiniti but the closest dealer to me now is 70 miles away so if I had problems I would be driving 240 miles R/T for service unless I waited for the car.
I never considered Nissan as I though the price on the window was close to what they wanted. Why Nissan prices it like that is beyond me.
Well the price is whatever people are paying for it. The question is why price the MSRP so high that many people never even consider the Maxima option? I was between a g35 and a Maxima. The Maxima came down in price $10K and I couldn't even find the G35 that I wanted on a lot, so they weren't going to come down that much on a car they don't have!

I bought my I30T new in 1998 and it never had anything major go wrong, 162K and it still had the original plugs , wires, coolant, tranny fluid...........it was a rock
