Viper SmartStart

I have a few questions I can't seem to find answers to online. I found a place to install the VSS3001 for $429.00.

I want to know two things:

1) when I start the vehicle from my phone, do I get a conformation or anything that my vehicle has started?

2) How long will the vehicle run before shutting off? And what are the options for how long it can run?

yeah you'll get confirmation that the command was received. you can also update the status page to see if the remote start is running or not. default time is 10 minutes but you can adjust that, generally though longer than that isn't going to do much besides waste gas

Excellent, thanks! Also, I was curious as to how this works with push to start? When I get in the car, what do I do to start driving? Do I just have to his the button I usually hit to start the car and go? I've read some remote starts you have to shut the car off and then restart it which would just be annoying

Ditto to what Ghozt said and also it's more reliable now than it used to back in 2010.

for Vipers it depends on the firmware they flash your unit too, if its the older firmware then you get in and press the start button twice then put your foot on the brake and go. if its the newer firmware once your car detects the OEM keyfob, you have 15 seconds to get in and put the car in gear or it turns off

For those of you with expierience, is it worth the extra $150 for the GPS feature? I don't see the use for it but wanted to hear from those if you who might have it and have a good use for it.

I was originally just getting the module for the lock/unlock and remote start. I was considering getting the one with the GPS but trying to figure out if that module was worth an extra $150.

GPS module is not needed since when you lock the doors, and your phone has a GPS, it will mark the car location at that time so it's easy to track back down... the only time it would be needed is if the car is stolen.

BTW, I've had my smart start for just over a year, the only issue I want to call out is if your battery is weak, it won't start.

Is it doing good or did you have some problems with it?

The GPS comes in handy with insurance and locating your car "live". If someone takes it they might not know u have it and you can track it!
