Engine noise and oil.

So my engine has always been noisy, in a unrefined way. Not as much as a knock but almost a knock. First start ups included a timing chain rattle. My car as always been serviced at the dealer for oil changes the first 30,000 miles of it's life. After getting tired of the dealer trying to rip me off I went to a Valvoline next to my place and filled it with Valvoline Synthetic.

Now the timing chain rattle is gone and the engine is quiet, imagine that.

I don't like other people servicing my car.
Other than a serious issue I cannot address I do most of my own work, something I have been doing since I was a teen.
I went to synthetic after my first oil change. I backed it up with a "piece of mind" oil analysis validation @ 25-26K miles.

Just curious but if there was a timing chain rattle how did a simple oil change make a difference? Probably switching to a synthetic or different viscosity of oil would of helped with any knock or ping aswell as using a higher octane fuel.

I'm like you, can't stand others working on my car. I moved from Vegas to Denver last year and have been in an apartment waiting for my house to get built so I have been without my tools and a garage.

Your oil analysis was done at 25k with what increments of changes? Results?

I usually do 6-7,000 mile intervals. I'll have Blackstone look at mine after 6,000 and see if I can get another 1-2k out of it.

I posted on this sometime before so I hope my memory serves me correct.
My sample was at or around 4800K miles at the time of analysis with good results...no water/antifreeze or other major wear issues noted. They said I could go to around 6200-6500 between oil changes. My past change interval was around 5K using Penz-Platinum. I plan on changing to M1 in a couple more changes.
