Feel like im buring gas like crazy

I feel like im filling up my max too often. Im not sure if this makes any sense but I had a stillen cold air intake on the car and went back factory. Now someone put my aftermarket intake in and i put the factory 1 back in and i doubt i missed any steps. Not sure if this is considered a leak in the pic

I put in a new air filter with the factory intake and put a can of seafoam also in the tank to see if it would increase my mpg. I dont think i need a tune up because i only have 72000 miles. Please any input would help. Thank u

That is not a leak.
How many miles a tank are you getting?

I didnt think it was a leak either but i feel like around that opening it should be a little tighter. 280-290 with a full tank and that is with me treating the pedal like a baby.

Mileage in the city that would not be too bad. Highway not so great. Did you feel the stock airbox as better or worse than the intake?

You might be burning through gas dude. I can get a good 340-415 (check it, I actually did 415 once) on a full tank in Los Angeles. Maybe the type of gas you're using is off as well?

To find out for sure, top the tank off with good gas, Chevron, Texaco, Shell and take a highway trip of 200 miles, top off the tank again and figure your mileage, you should get at least something like 28-30 mpg, that's what I'm getting on the highway.

Go for it bro! My gas stations are (in preference)
1. 76
2. Chevron/Shell (depending on prices on that particular day)

If you still don't get at least 300, then take it into the shop. But at least two controlled tests to make sure

Nothing insane about it. Been getting that since I bought it 6 years ago. If that's all you are getting then either your foot is in it to far or there is something else with the car that is not right.

agreed. here in LA, i can get somewhere around 40-45 mpg at times. I think it's because the engine becomes more efficient the higher the RPM go. weird, but that's how I keep a good gas tank

Bad plugs would be something to consider too. These are rated at 100K if I recall, but when I had mine replaced on the 07 at about 65k even the dealership was surprised how bad they were with the mileage. They kept telling me to wait, and I insisted. Car drove completely different, and had slightly better MPG.

The way you drive? When Im pissed off/ running late like tbe past couple weeks have been with me I can get as bad as 260-280ish miles a tank, accelerating fast and lots of harder braking, some idling too. But I've gotten a little over 500 miles a tank on all highway driving for a roadtrip and can get regularly over 400 if I drive with preservation of fuel, transmission, and brakes in mind, otherwise known as cheaply but not grandma-like. Also, usually always use 93/91 (premium) octane. But went cheap in Georgia and put E85 in and ended up with high idle, sluggish performance, and less than 200 highway mpg, obviously that was a mistake and octane and ethanol makes a difference.

It wasn't too rough before, but after plugs replace the response was considerably better. MPG's improved a little...mostly around town so it was hard to gage, highway mileage wasn't impacted that much as I recall.

I also have went from a KN drop in to a KN typhoon ram air, the ram air seems slightly better due to airflow as the heat guard seems to try to keep the hot air out as there arent any true CAI as far as I know for our Maxes. Yes people say that the warm air that gets sucked in negates any gains but imho the factory scoop that gets preserved sucks in cooler air and heat plate minimizes the amount of heat that gets into the intake and the overall better airflow negates any losses by slightly warmer air intrusion so imo its better, especially in cooler weather but even in summer, had stock setup last summer thru early spring (kn drop in) and went to typhoon after, so far seems to have slightly improved mileage. Also keep tires at 45 psi, no lower, 18" SV non-sport.
