2013 Nissan Maxima won't start

The fob for my Maxima is no longer unlocking the car, however the mechanical key does. When I get in to the car there is a red icon of a car with a key inside it (see image below) constantly blinking on the dash and none of the electronics are working, I can't turn on the headlights, the wipers, interior lights etc. The push button is also blinking. Also, as per the title, the car won't start either. The blinking also makes a quiet sound.

From what I can gather, that icon indicates the anti-theft is active, however from what I've read the fob should be able to disable that.

I have tried a few solutions with no luck:
  1. Replaced the battery in the fob with a newly bought one
  2. Putting the fob in to the slot next to the steering wheel
  3. Disconnecting the battery overnight and reconnecting it
  4. Unlocking the steering column and moving it up and down, while pushing the start button
  5. Turning the steering wheel all the way left, and all the way right
  6. Holding the fob on to the push start button for 10 seconds and then pushing it

I'm not sure what to try next. I have head about a steering lock issue, however I have seen comments saying that's not relevant for the 2013 model.

How do you know that your 12 volt battery is OK? You didn't mention that you had it tested.

My bet is if you replace the 12 volt battery your car will start right up.

You mean this issue just began out of the blues. Seems the BCM has gone bad.

Thanks for the reply! It did turn out to be the battery. Went and replaced the battery after work yesterday and it started up no worries.

How did you come up with this guess?

A dysfunctional BCM disables pretty much in the car.
