2009 maxima engine codes
2009 maxima engine codes
Hey guys,
please bare with my lack of proper terminology.
I have an 09 which occasionally threw some codes but I would just reset them usually just before getting an inspection.
this time it didn’t work.
The inspector said he can’t inspect it because it’s saying it’s not ready. Not that it failed but just not ready. He said my minimum local driving twice a week was probably the problem. He said to fill it with premium and get on the highway and drive like a gangster!!! Lol
well 2 bottles of octane boost and 2 tanks of premium later and now I’ve got more engine codes. I forget the old ones. I want to say they were O2 sensors but not sure. Now the codes are p0014 and p0024. If that’s not bad enough now the brake light intermittently comes on and off and the anti skid (vdc) off light. I’ve also been hearing the front pads clanking around when my foot is off the brakes.
Before anyone hands me my head for neglect.
This is a used car I bought for my kid when she started driving in 2018. When she went to college I gave her our newer car to take. I work from home and the car is used twice a week to go 6 miles and back on side roads.
thanks guys….

The intermittent vdc/abs is probably low brake fluid based on your comments about hearing the brake pads.
The p0014 codes could be nothing more than the result of low oil/lack of oil changes. You may try that before trying to replace the cam phasers.

I bought the car used so I can’t speak for the maintenance. The car isn’t driven much but the oil was changed recently.
I pulled the front tires last night expecting to see the pads flopping around but to my surprise there was plenty of meat on the pads and rattle clips were in place. I tried to replicate the noise by hand but no luck. Pads seemed tight. I’ll check the rear today but see no oil leaking and the reservoir was a little low but didn’t seem way low. Was dark I’ll also revisit it.
I wanted to share the codes that are showing up on the reader…
As for the oil, I can’t speak about before I bought it but it gets changed and was recently changed and checked as well.
It keeps throwing cam positioning sensor codes. Every time i go for the inspection I clear the codes but it still doesn’t pass. The technician says it didn’t fail its reading “Not Ready”. To go and drive it hard with super unleaded gas.
Any other tricks you might suggest??
Should I just change those ???
Are they hard to do?
The car runs ok, just a little stumbling once in a while at a stop light. I can’t confirm gas mileage as I don’t really drive it much.
Thank you
