Are you referring to sales? The Altima sold 296,000 the first 11 months of 2013, and has sold 303,000 the first 11 months of 2014. I would expect Nissan would love to have several of its other models doing so 'badly.'

If you are talking about the car's performance instead of sales, the Altima performs well for the money. It has been 'punished' by a few rating services because the redesigned CVT has had some problems in the 3.5 Altima. Those new CVT problems in the Altima are the major reason the 8th gen Maxima has been delayed a year or two.

Maxima sales did well the first half of 2014, but the failure of Nissan to release a 2015 model year of the Maxima has naturally slowed Maxima sales the last half of the year.


EDIT - CS_AR - I posted the above stats for george while still reading on the previous page, not realizing you had already answered him on this page. You mentioned hydramatics and the 'dyna-slush' trannies of bygone days. I have been driving since the 1940s, so 'experienced' those early trannies.

I drove a military 'deuce-and-a-half' (two and a half ton) truck while in the military in Korea in the 1950s, and it had one of those slush boxes. I would head up a steep hill, with two military radio station structures in the truck bed (lotta weight), while pulling a trailer with two generators. Sometimes the rig would simply stall on the hill, motor running full speed, but the truck just sitting there.

I don't think the sales of the Altima are classified as "bad" whoever claimed that (I'm on my phone, can't tell). I'm still patiently waiting for the release, the pics on the previous page do make it look quite large.

A little disheartning to see that newly written article make the egregious mistake of saying the 8th gen intro will be the 2015 Maxima. I thought Nissan made it clear back in the summer that the 8th gen would be released as the 2016 Maxima.

Although I personally feel the 8th gen 2016 may arrive in May or June, Nissan has suggested the release could be as late as the third or fourth quarter of 2015, by which time all 2015s of virtually all manufacturers will have been built. Assembly lines usually convert to following year's model by late July, and virtually all assembly lines will be producing 2016 models by this coming August.

I am also a little suspicious of the possibility of three power plant options (6 cyl, 4 cyl and hybrid). The economics of an 'affordable' rather upscale vehicle which will probably be aimed at selling around 70K copies would seem to make the possibility of three power options remote.

I will be on record as saying there will be only one or two power options in the 16 Maxima. Most likely just a 6 cylinder, but possibly a 6 cyl AND and a turbocharged or supercharged 4. If only the 6 cyl is available, Nissan might give it the 'resting cylinder' feature, which rests some of the cylinders when not neded for acceleration. That would raise the government fuel efficiency ratings.

I would mildly disagree with the 'V' description of the grille. Maybe 'truncated V' or 'splayed U'. But that is nit-picking.

At least we have the comfort of knowing we will be seeing the official 8th gen intro at a car show within the next two and a half months. That will answer most questions.

I just changed my mind about the new Maxima a bit. Was at Nissan dealer with wife this weekend and saw the new Murano...it looks good

The lights specifically and the floating window design, which I know will be similar on the new Maxima.

Clearly it wont be as aggressive as the concept, but I think Nissan is coming pretty close to it. And how many cars out there look anything like even the 7th gen maxima?

Even a 7th gen Maxima looks newer and better next to a way newer Accord, Camry, Hyindai, Kia, etc...which all just look plain and similar.

New Maxima will clearly have looks that set it way apart from your common breed family sedan.

Only slightly off topic. In checking the owner's manual for the 2015 Murano, I see that they have moved to recommending 0W-20 oil, with 5W-30 as a suitable replacement.

This is not a shock to me - in fact I had quit stockpiling oil in anticipation of this. But to my knowledge - this is the first time they have started recommending 0W-20 for the VQ.

 

Hood looks short, the wheels are horrendous, and that character line from the front fender to the rear door looks weird...but I'm willing to bet that this is 98% accurate of the new Maxima. Honestly, I'm getting a little excited about the car.

 

I hope they don't add a hood scope on this car... Ricey FWD wannabe sports sedan bahaha

The reason I like the new Maxima look is it gets away from the 1951 Kaiser Manhattan C-Pillar look (Exhibit B) that Howard Darren designed in the late 1940s.

 

Grilles are a matter of preference. I very much dislike that Lexus grille, just as I dislike the new Camry grille. I like the supposed 8th gen Maxima grille, but it is not perfect. I do have ideas on how to make it look better, and will be implementing those ideas when I get my 8th gen.

Those salivating over 400+HP are on the wrong web site. That would be a different type and class of car.

The ground angle of that supposed 8th gen makes it look bulky, but the view standing near the car is entirely different. As we will see next month.

I agree with others that the wheels are not perfect for this car. But there are places where I can purchase wheels to suit my taste.

Yes, that image of the 'supposed' 8th gen is very close to reality. I love it.
