The 8th generation Maxima...prototypes, news, updates, rumors and more
Looks sweet! Love the jeweled headlights..My 16 Platinum is paid, and I am tempted to by a 19 when available. Hope the fog lights are truly LED, and the interior is different from the Altima. Not a fan of the way the infotainment system appears to be glued on the dashboard. Also, it too closely resembles the Honda Accord.
Guess the smarter move would be to hold out for the 9th generation which could be coming within the next 3 years.

Since it isn't a total redesign, just a minor refresh, why would you expect that part to change? I hope they would bring back the hand lever parking brake in the center (likely not happening) I put the electronic parking brakes in the same category as the tacked on screen...new features I despise and wish would go away fast!
"A variant of the Platinum trim, the car will get unique 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, heated rear seats, a charcoal headliner, various two-tone touches and diamond-quilted semi-aniline leather seats featuring Rakuda Tan, a deep caramel color thus far only offered elsewhere in the GT-R." https://www.carsdirect.com/automotiv...nterior-option and https://www.thetorquereport.com/niss...from-the-gt-r/

After a short break I'm finally coming back to the Maxima family (for the 3rd time)., Have my 2019 PLAT on order. Was going to go with another SR, but the options and avail colors were just way too limited. Nissan really changed things around in the lineup.
They finally "fixed" their trim levels so the PLAT is actually the top range instead of being seemingly less than the 16+ SR (IMHO).

And how did you order a '19 already?
FattiesGoneWild: Yes, Royal Blue is a color, which is what I ordered.
R1600TUrbo: Yeah I know PLAT was always the Top trim. It wasn't just wheel size, though that was a big deal for me. The 18" wheels make the whole car look cheaper imho because of the amount of wheel gap. Also the fact that the SR could be had with 2 tone interior (Camel), when plat was Black only. Also the lack of paddle shifters. And yeah, I know they don't really do much, but much cheaper cars add them in anyway. Really, you got Smaller wheels, No Sunroof delete option, no paddle shifters, but you got the Around View monitor which is awesome. Really, the parking monitor was the only thing the PLAT had that the SR didnt, so it never felt like there was ever a reason to get the PLAT unless the SR suspension was just that rough for your tastes. This is all just my opinion of course.
sschumer: it's a bit tricky to explain, but I'll say it's a perk I have access to. Went to order my next car and this is how I found out there was a refresh for 2019. The 2018 was no longer available for order, so I had to spec out a 2019 without seeing any pictures of the exterior or interior. It was already on order before I saw the above pic released. So I'm kinda happy that it turned out ok.

That is a Platinum pictured.

For example, new exterior and/or interior colors? New features, like AWD, other?
wtgkb8: Good catch. The SR I originally had was a 2016, and at the time I was ordering that Maxima, the only option for the PLAT was the diamond quilted seats in black. The 'Cashmere' was not available. Not sure if that means it was added in 2017, or just later in the life of the 2016 model. Though I'm still unsure if the PLAT is all Leather, or Leather + Alcantara. I know the SR is Alcantara.
The only other cool thing for options and all that I saw is what has already been released / reported regarding the Platinum Reserve package and the Rakuda Tan interior. No pics of it exist on the Maxima that I've found, but if you want an idea of the color, just go look at the GTR Rakuda tan pics.
Honestly, I think the big news will be the lack of options on the SR now. 3 color choices (black/silver/Burnt Orange) and no fun packages. Currently no Midnight edition for the 2019.
I still own my Subaru WRX. So this is coming from an AWD fanboy. I've come to realize unless you have a subaru, Quattro Audi, or similar, "AWD" on most car brands is just only there for snow / ice weather conditions. The rear (or front depending on base drive train) wheels only ever get traction, and even then only partial, under extreme wheel slip. And even then, the amount you get is only good to help you get un stuck. So for people hoping to get any kind of performance out of it, it's just not going to do that. What it is going to do is add weight and reduce MPG.
All this to say, sure, they may offer AWD on the next gen, but it'll be kind of worthless outside of inclement weather conditions. It's the same with Infiniti. I currently have an AWD Q50 RedSport. after nearly losing my $h!t in it, I dug around a lot until I finally got my answer. The car is RWD 100% of the time until the rear wheels start sliding at which point it sends the minimum amount of power needed to the front in order to get the car stable again, before sending all the power back to the rear wheels. So while I was hoping for a "mini GTR sedan", that's not at all what I got.

(I'm still planning to get one if the numbers line up - the Genesis G70, Kia Stinger GT, Audi A6, Alfa Guilia, etc. are all too expensive or risky from a reliability perspective)

The improvements look to be great. No change in power train was expected. One lame thing I did notice on a close up with the quad tips. They are not all functional and just for looks left/right outer ones. It looks lame up close. Also the SR is getting the optional panoramic roof finally in the premium package. So that lame excuse Nissan used about structural rigidity on the SR model was hog wash.

I spy an updated infotainment screen UI... perhaps it fixes some of the software bugs and improves the map graphics. Too bad that only 19+ models will have it as Nissan refuses to push any updates. I’m really not sold on any of the cosmetic changes - looks worse, no? At least someone realized 4 fog light bulbs was ridiculous and they’ve been replaced by the standard LED unit.

i have 2018 Maxima SR with panoramic sunroof and 360 cameras, this is the middle east specification but we don't have the platinum
It looks refined and hopefully corrects some of the moaning about LED, this and LED that. The safety features added helps me in deciding to go for a 19. Some can argue that the 16-18s look better but that is a nice position to be in. It just points to the enduring design we were treated to in the 2015 release of this car. The quad exhaust tips for me are "Kentucky go fasters" but they seem to be everywhere. The earlier twin pipe is cleaner looking.
