2016 Maxima Drive Computer Resets
2016 Maxima Drive Computer Resets
I've had my new 2016 Maxima for a few day now and I love it, but it has a little problem.Sometimes, not always, but sometimes when I turn the car off, the Drive Computer (miles, time, ave. mph and ave. mpg) and both Trip Counters (miles) and the ECO history reset to zero. This happens about 10-20% of the time.Does anyone have any ideas on what's causing this or a solution to the problem? It makes all of these systems useless.
Gee, Daniel, I never thought of that. Maybe I don't want the dealership's mechanics messing with it if the issue can be fixed with a vehicle setting that I can change.I guess it was a mistake to join this forum.
It sounds like the car might be in Transport Mode
With the rush to get the car on the lot the dealer probably forgot to remove this
I am not familiar with the new Max but on my 2012 it was in the fuse box on the drivers side. All you need to do is open the fuse box and push it in. Looks like one of the fuses. Give it a try.

Thanks for the tip.
I checked the fuses and there is a big white one (sticks way out with a large head) that is labeled "Extended Storage SW". I looked it up in the owner's manual that is indeed what it is for. However, it was pushed in and the car should give you a warning when it is not.
Here is the owner's manual entry for it: "This warning may appear if the extended storage fuse switch is not pushed in (switched on). When this warning appears, push in (switch on) the extended storage fuse switch to turn off the warning."
Again, thanks for the helpful tip!

Issue Fixed
The issue seams to be fixed. I took it to the dealer and they couldn't diagnose the issue so they just ordered a new instrument cluster. While waiting for it to come in, I noticed the starter wasn't turning it over very fast. Thinking a low voltage could be causing the drive computer to reset, I took it back to the dealer and had them check the battery. It tested bad, so they replaced it. The drive computer and trip odometers have not reset since.

Yeah. It really scared me to think about them taking the cluster out. This shop isn't real swift, but it's where I bought the car and in my home town and I like the sales department. I trust the service department for oil changes, but not much else. I was hoping they'd hook up a diagnostic machine and find a simple fix. There's a fantastic Nissan service department 50 miles away and I should have taken it there. I won't trust anyone else with my 280, which is up there right now. Anyway, thanks for the help.

This same issue is happening with my 2017 Maxima that I just bought a few weeks ago. The car has just over 1000 miles on it and has been doing this ever since.
I took it to my local Nissan dealer and they tried to diagnose the problem and they do not know what it is. They replaced the SD card and it is still happening. They also checked the battery and confirmed it was good.
I am not sure what else to do! It is extremely frustrating to spend a lot of money on a really nice vehicle only to find it isn't working as it should. What would be the next step?
