Tony Motordyne Exhaust Installed

Okkkkkkkay....Tony Motordyne exhaust installed. Thanks to Kyle Hitchcock and Walter Aguilar for their support on this. This was tooled for the 7GEN, but fits the 8GEN with just a few very easy twist mentioned below.

First I suck at writes-ups most every time! And in all reality sound clips will do this NO justice, and you cannot make a determination by a recorded sound clip in my opinion anyway!

Second the install is a breeze even though this was designed for the 7th gen...I see no reason why Tony would have to re-tool this for 8th gen all. You will see in one picture where I have a circle to where you have to trim off that piece or you can actually take a hammer and just beat it back a little bit so it clears the exhaust.

The other thing you have to do is drop down the mounting plate that the mufflers mount to, and just use two bolts to mount up the mufflers instead of the 4 that come stock. It holds them in place just fine. That was near impossible to get a final picture of because of the tightness of that area. And in one picture you will see the gasket you need to buy for the art y-pipe to mount up. I have a picture of the stock gasket laying over the top of the art y-pipe gasket. They do not match up.

Basically anyone that cannot clearly see these two small things should not be installing exhaust LOL

So in conclusion, break out your credit card and call Tony Motordyne and get this exhaust ordered TODAY. Everyday you wait, is another day you will not be enjoying this car to its fullest! This by far is the most awesome sounding full exhaust I have ever had on a car! And by far the best quality I've ever seen in an exhaust! Not to mention their customer service when taking your order is over-the-top! They are truly excited about what they are selling!

One quick sound clip.

Circled area is where you need to trim for this to clear. Takes less than a minute if that.

That exhaust looks f'ing sweet. It adds a really nice look to the car. I'm not a big fan of exhaust on V6's as I don't like the sound, but the look of the whole system is phenomenal.

I don't see the link for the sound clip?

Nevermind, just refreshed and it showed up. Damn that sounds like my 350Z with Motordyne on it when I had it.

I don't see the exhaust listed for any Maximas on the motordyne site. Is the exhaust from a G35/37?

Where did you get the diffuser and front splitter? It looks like its carbon fiber wrapped. Looks nice and I'm planning to do the same set up as yours. already bought the motordyne exhaust + ypipe and stillen CAI.

Looks like its a bargain for what the splitter and diffuser cost. Anyone tried wrapping their own diffuser or hydro dipping it their selves?

How was your exhaust install? Where did you get the gasket needed from the pictures above? Looking to get same setup for intake and exhaust.

i havent had it installed yet. Still waiting for it to be delivered. The gasket i would still have to look up for it as well but i would have it installed from a reputable shop so maybe they would have it or would give me advise on where i could get the gasket from.

Impressive writeup and I would agree, the sound is great without being obnoxious. At highway speeds, is there any droning? If so at what speed/RPM? One nice attribute for the CVT is lower RPMs at cruise.
Finally what was your total investment in this system?

Looks high quality and actually sounds good too.
Couple questions:

1) how loud is it driving around town and on the highway? Any Drone

2) any noticeable power gain?

(I ask because a guy I know did a 3rd cat delete and resonator delete ($50) and it sounds damn near identical to yours.... zero drone)

3) what all did this cost you parts and labour?

i just installed it today and so as the stillen intake. It is loud but has an aggressive note to it. Installation is quite simple and gaskets are provided. Weird thing tho is that the gaskets motordyne provided needs a tiny bit of modification to fit exactly. Holes doesnt line up properly and y pipe install is easy but i say would need an extra hand if you do it by yourself to make sure everything lines up perfectly. hardest part of the install is the muffler. Its hard to slide it in the hanger but if you do take out the hanger and install it with the muffler, it leaves a really small space to tighten the bolts. So far thats how my installation was but it was also my first time installing an exhaust system. most quotes i got for installation is 200-500 and most of them are hesistant to install the y pipe. Thats why i decided to do it myself.

some noticeable power gain especially in acceleration. But could also be a placebo effect on me. Ill have to see after a while if it does actually give me better mpg or if it really does get more power.

No drones whatsoever and you do hear the exhaust even if the windows are rolled up but since maxima has good sound padding its minimal and with radio in you would barely notice it. Total cost for the exhaust is 2k and shipping is around 300. So you end up spending 2.3k in parts and add in labor at somewhere around 200-500(in CT area tho) and add in an intake, k&n, stillen or Aem. Thats 250-320 shipped. Total is almost 3k. But its worth it tho.

What type of modifications did you have to make to the gaskets? I got a quote of 200 to have it installed, but I think a buddy and I can do it. Do you have any pics of the muffler thing you were describing, not sure I understood that part. Thanks.

The holes on the gasket motordyne provided me did not align to the holes for the bolts in the exhaust. either you make the hole bigger so it properly aligns to the holes or use the old gasket if yours is the same. if you are installing the y pipe make sure you use the old gasket from the old y pipe. One thing as well is the rubber hanger at the muffler area you would have to take off and put on the new muffler before installing it again. you might get an issue on putting it back on with all 4 screws but as the original post said you can use 2 screws instead of 4 as long as you make sure that it is tight. also on the right muffler area you would need to trim I think a part of the frame since it is sticking to the exhaust pipe. you would see it but I guess you can do some adjustment and try to make a gap. I still have not trimmed mines but I did some research and would try different solutions just so I wouldn't mess with the frame itself. ill take picture of it on Tuesday.

my next project is wrapping the stillen diffuser and splitter in carbon fiber then wrapping the roof gloss black and having my windows tinted and installing a roof spoiler.

OK thanks. What other options did you find with the frame issue?

I bought a thermo tec heat and sound insulator. I will try to use it as a cushion between the frame and exhaust pipe. It should be able to handle the heat of the exhaust pipe and absorb an vibrations the exhaust produces and stop metal to metal contact.

I will tell you if it works and if not I would continue on cutting off a small section of the frame.

Had my exhaust installed today. The place wouldn't do the y pipe so that sucked... Gotta find plan b. No frame rubbing issues. Y pipe did not come with gaskets oddly enough so hopefully, as another owner said, the stock ones can be used when joining the y pipe to the exhaust when I can get that done.

Y pipe on, there was some drone from factory pipe connected to cat back, now that's gone, all one complete system!! Happier than, well, pretty darn happy !

Hi,

i plan on getting the ART y and full exhaust installed as well but wanted to know if you experienced any error codes or check engine lights after the installation.
