Randomly when I am driving, regardless of weather, traffic, etc. my cruise control and my ABS lights up orange, and then I am unable to use my cruise control. When I turn the car off and back on, it “resets” and I’m able to use it again. I’ve brought it into the dealer, and they’ve just said it’s from bugs hitting the sensor. I drive an hour each way to work, so I’m bound to hit some bugs, but I wouldn’t think the cruise control should malfunction from a bug.
I live in a rural area and mine works fine, when I go into metro DC, it’s not uncommon for that to happen. My thoughts is there is lots of “radar” interference in a metro area, from other vehicles, speed traps, road conditions sensors. It’s annoying when your cruise control shuts off in traffic. I Wish they allowed you to have the option of setting the system to the old style of cruise control.

From what I understand some of the newest Nissan SUVs have this fall back to conventional operation feature on their cruise controls.
I've had this twice, once in a downpour and once in foggy conditions. I'm thinking that the conditions were the cause in my case so I haven't brought it up at the dealer. It is obnoxious that cruise control becomes inoperable when the radar is not functioning, I'm glad to hear that Nissan has thought of this.
You should be aware that this problem we are talking about had nothing to do with weather conditions. Clear and dry. What you are noticing is a normal result of rain or snow or fog as written in the manual.
I have never experienced my problem again since the correction was done at the shop.
