Trunk release acting inappropriately

Was going golfing this morning and thought I had my key with me. The trunk opened from the outside switch and herd the 4 beeps . I placed my clubs in the trunk and closed the trunk lid. I opened the unlocked front door and jumped in the front seat to start the car... and nothing, as I did not have my key with me as I left it on the house. How did the trunk open without the key?

Probably because the front door was unlocked.

So you guys are saying as long as the front door is unlocked the trunk is unlocked also.
My guess is the OP unlocked the car and opened the trunk with the remote from inside the house then left the keys in the house. OP probably forgot he unlocked at an earlier time.

No I left the car door unlocked from the previous night as I never unlock my car from the fob.

Shouldn't a moderator change the title to "Trunk release acting appropriately"?

Makes sense considering you would have access to the button in the car to pop the trunk.

Would someone please educate me as I do not understand the concept of your trunk unlocking when the front door is unlocked. That would mean someone else who does not have a fob can come up behind you after you load your packages into the trunk, open up the trunk and make off with whatever while you are in the drivers seat with the front door unlocked. At least with my 7th generation the only way into the trunk is with the FOB or push the button at the drivers seat.

I have three things to offer on this:

1) That seems like a very unlikely scenario. I guess anything can happen but you are right there if you are in the driver's seat, that's a pretty brazen move.

2) This is completely normal functionality. If you think of any vehicle with a tailgate or hatchback, (SUV or truck), they are unlocked when the doors are unlocked...

3) If you really find this to be an issue, there is a switch inside the glove box for valet purposes that turns off the trunk release. However the remote won't work either so you'd have to turn the switch back on every time you needed in your trunk.

4. While you are sitting with your door unlocked, someone could open your fuel door, take the gas cap off, and siphon gasoline from your tank too.

I enjoy your humor though sadly in the Chicago area, it has become reality with car jackings almost daily.

I believe my 7th gen, acted the same way. If the doors are unlocked so is the trunk and the filler door.

Could it also be that even though the FOB was in the house, that it was still in range for the car to pick up the signal? after all, you did open the front door without it. they have a pretty good range.

I had left the door unlocked overnight and the FOB was not even close to the car.
