What did you trade for your Maxima?
Trying to head off the circular discussion about regular vs premium usage. Here is a case where there is no right or wrong to one's preference on fuel type usage. Fact is I pay less for regular with no adverse effects for the 70000 miles I drove my 2016. The engine computer makes the adjustments without any ping - ever.
Agree! I have never fed mine anything but regular! 33 MPG gets r done for me! Of course we'll get flames from those who self gratify by insisting their car needs premium. (They just want to feel good by paying more! The oil companies love you!) Truth be told, the performance difference is not really measurable in our eveyday lives Pounding out 0-60 in a few tics less than 6 seconds is not what this car is all about. It just looks fast even sitting.
Recommended and required are 2 different things completely. The VQ runs just fine on Regular and I do not see anyone ever racing around in their Maxima...Not a car you buy for that......Not to mention, Premium is almost a dollar a gallon more here....BS in my opinion, because it used to be a dime or 20 cents. My 02 Altima VQ had REQUIRED on the Gas door...Never put a drop of anything else in it....My 12, it is Recommended......so it get regular.
If you go top tier on your premium, that is never a bad Idea. The detergents in the top tier definatey make a difference in how clean you valves, etc stay. The places most people get gas.....waste of money to get the premium if you do not need it.

That ...
Folks, repeat after me: it is not about the octane number. The difference in RON between 87/91 and 93 is minimal.
It is not about the octane number.
It is not about the octane number.
It's about the amount and the quality of the detergents/additives refineries put in premium gasoline vs. regular. These detergents keep your engine cleaner, longer.
You can take my word for it, I am a chemical engineer working for an oil company. Anybody technical in my business knows that.
