New Owner 17 SV ... Couple of Questions..
Hey all i would like to say, I am so happy to be back w/ the nissan family. I used to own a 2004 nissan sentra spec-v 6 speed. I loved the 2.5l in the sentra. Now w/ the big boy max and the 3.5 i am so happy to be back. Anyways, I do havea couple of questions related to the maxima... First of all, the auto start from the key, is there anything i have to do special? I press and hold the button and it does not auto-start. Secondly, Can i order a 2nd key and program it myself? If so is there a tutorial anywhere online that walks me through it?
Finally, what id s good source people use here for aftermarket parts?
Thanks for the info everybody. I attached a pic of my beauty.

To remote start first push the lock button on the fob and then within 5 seconds push and hold down the start button.
Why would you accept a car with only one key? But in answer to your question you cannot program the key fobs yourself. You must either go to the dealer or a locksmith that has the necessary equipment.
I had a third fob programmed at the dealer at no cost after the purchase of my '17 Platinum. Bought it from ebay

and it worked perfectly. In the past I have had fobs programmed at the dealer for $40. There are no parts necessary to program one, just a few minutes with a computer.

There’s also an option which needs to be engaged in the settings. Just go to menu and see if it’s ON.
Not it sure about key making but I would suggest to call Nissan and check with them.
Regarding aftermarket parts... I’m pretty sure some of members will suggest a good source for parts. I’ve seen die hard modders here. You can also check the thread for recent mods which members post here.

BTW remote start works even when the car is not within view. I can start my car 120 feet away parked outside the building through multiple concrete and brick walls. I just happened to have security camera installed in the parking area. The other day I tested it looking at the monitor from my house. And it fired up.

WW, why do you say this? I think the remote started car stops after 10 minutes. Would not use mine unless I was going to continue driving the car to a destination

I have and will continue to remote start mine when it is cold or really hot. I do it so that I am comfortable while driving. I installed a Drone Mobile remote start so that I could start it even from too far for the keyfob to reach.

Thank you everybody for the information. I am going to try it When i am leaving for work. I also have to send the signal through a few walls and a decent way to the parking lot.. so it will be a good test.
Looking forward to learning a lot here.

I don't have any proof but I do believe there has to be some line of sight/blind spot issue with the restart because I too have had trouble getting it going a few times, even though I am positive I locked the doors, sometimes even twice. I have a 2018 Maxima SV.

Some financial institutions require that they hold one of the keys as a condition of a loan approval in order to simplify a repossession if necessary. This isn't usually disclosed to the buyer if financing is arranged through the car dealer, but if they give you a late-model used car with one key, that's most likely the reason.

the car is used, have you ever bought a used vehicle before? They don’t always. Have both sets of keys. I found the Nissan key fob online for $40 and my dealer will program it for $69.99 so not too bad.

I have experienced this a few times with my 17SL. If I am about 100 ft. or so away and I can't see my car, often when I reach the car it has not started. If I am about the same distance and can see the car, then it starts 100% of the time.
