It is so damn cold in NYC. I went out today 7 in the morning. My doors were frozen. Couldn’t open.. had to force pull it... lol! Hope door seal is ok.. I think my car never experienced such low temps.. I know that something behind back seats is popping but I kinda got used to it but today something complete different started to make noise.. I’m pretty sure it’s a rear window pops like a pop corn. It does it when car is going on uneven surface... pops only when car is twisting. Like when you going over multiple uneven surfaces and wheels on different elevations. Those who drive in NYC will understand.

Anyways just wanted to share. Anyone in Tri State area drove Maxima today?

I live in the Chicago area but it's been just as brutally cold. But I honestly couldn't tell you if my car makes popping noises because the roads being so cold and stiff, I hear each and every bump. The roads I drive on to get to and from work are pretty bad anyway (in need of repair), but when it's this cold they become even worse/noisier.

However, I do keep mine in my garage at night, thank god for that - the doors don't freeze and in the morning it takes less than five minutes for the car to warm up, especially after I get on the road.

My 2016 has always popped at near zero temps. Near as I can tell it comes either from the LF dash or the windshield. Irritating but always goes away with warmer weather.

A few days ago after snow/cold my 2014 7th gen started making a noise that could be described as popping when going over bumps. It was surprisingly loud and would do it even over small bumps. Really annoying. It was coming from the back of the car and I thought it might be the rear window. Turns out that water/ice got under the spoiler. I was able to recreate the noise by pressing on one end of the spoiler.

Noise went away after the car warmed up in the garage. I can see/feel that there is a gap in the spoiler that allows water/ice to get under it. I will seal it in the spring when the weather is warmer. It's possible you may have experienced the same thing if your vehicle has a spoiler.

If it's not the spoiler it may be another part of the trunk/body that is icing up.

This has been a characteristic of every car I have ever owned. Nissan's seem to make the most noise in extreme cold based solely on my personal experience. Water gets in crack, freezes....body flexes and ice cracks and pops.
