2019 OTA Map Update

Hey folks - so the OTA updates do work (I think). Map version number (old) and new are both 2017.04.
edit - 2017.04 rev 4 >>> rev 5
Bad news - it was projected to take 5 hours, 36 minutes over my home gigabit ethernet.

The alternative was to do it via USB (same as Honda, etc. who use Garmin). Save map data USB > update map data on PC > update car.

Time to download full set (23 maps): 3 hours, 18 minutes.
Time to install: car projected 97 minutes. Completed in little over one hour or so.

Is that a different version than the one us 2017ers have to buy? I was told the latest map updates were released in October of 2018.

Totally different system (maps). These are TomTom maps, OTA/hard drive, no SD card.
My 2019 Honda has the same idea - but Garmin - and updated less frequently (every ~9 months).

Wait, the 2019 maxima has no SD card?

Yup, the SD card is history on the 2019 Max.

Lindros2, thanks for the info on the on the over the air update for the 2019. Can that update be downloaded on a PC then saved to a USB?

correct. No slot or tray for one - it’s now just part of the CD surround. Kind of looks asymmetric.

yes - times above are PC (Mac) download.
You have to “transfer map to SD card” (tiny serial number file) then run map update application with SD card inserted.
That will prompt you for selective map download (you can only get ones you need; I got all 23 of them hence the long time).
WARNING - Honda folks have bricked their Navi when the SD card wasn’t freshly formatted.
I just deleted all files since my Mac can’t format in FAT-32 format.
