2016 Maxima Question
2016 Maxima Question
Hey Everyone,
I'm new here and was very interested in a Certified Pre Owned Nissan Maxima. Really love the body style of that car and interior as well. Was gonna hop from 2 Infinitis to Nissan.
Was hoping somebody can shed some light on if this Nissan dealership was attempting to con me on the price of the car.
The car was listed for $20,000 but they added a $750 CPO fee and said that it was required for them to charge it to me. They then added a $500 hidden charge to gas and wash the car before delivery.
Also, there was a balance of guarantee left on the car but they added a $4000 warranty charge to extend it by 1 year.
Don't these CPOs normally come with warranty?
Lastly, the car looked accidented as the front bumper was loose and some very obvious dents were present. The rear looked badly repainted with little to no buffing and obvious defects could be seen from sunlight.
I thought CPOs were supposed to be free from accidents and repaired if some minor stuff interfered the car from driving properly?
Is this something to expect from every dealership I go to looking for this exact car? It's discouraging as the car was reasonaly priced but with all these ''insisted add-ons'', the car went from $20000 to $33000 after tax and interest.
Also kindly share if the SR or Platinum variants are better. These cars look really good and seem to drive great but can't choose which model is better suited for me.

Nissan CPO warranty is only really good for the 7 year 100k powertrain warranty. That also starts on the first day in service, not when you buy it. So if it's 3 years old, you only get 4 years of coverage for just powertrain What sucks, is you're paying the dealership to pay Nissan for the certification. So then if you extend the full coverage warranty to 100k, you're likely going to pay full price for that even thought you're also paying for the CPO bundled in the asking price for the used car. So say the CPO is $900, then you extend the full coverage for $1600-2000...you're out close to $3000. Where if you buy used, not CPO, extend the warranty for $1600, you will save that $900 the dealership paid. Now all of this is likely negotiable, in that if you found the car you want that is CPO, be sure to discuss discounting for extending the full warranty somewhere in the asking price, that you don't want to pay twice for overlapping coverage.
Nissan's certified pre-owned CPO warranty offers 7 years or 100,000 miles of powertrain protection from the car's original sale date. It also includes a 3-month trial of SiriusXM radio, a free Carfax vehicle history report and 24-hour roadside assistance.

My 2016 was perfect - ~20k miles after 33 months. I can't find the car online - our 2015 Pathfinder VIN popped up almost instantly in car sale sites.
So a "perfect" car most likely is sold quickly pre-auction.

Even paying $499 to gas and wash the car was absolutely unreal to me.
Of course I walked away, and so should you.
