Transmission will not engage

I bought my Nissan Maxima in early 2017 after my first wife passed away so I payed for the car cash... I bought it with 17 miles on the odometer the car had been off the truck for maybe a day. I believe I bought the first car in Dallas Tx. as it was nearly a month before I saw another one on the road.

I am currently a student going for my associate degree in automotive. I would rather work on my own car so here is the issue. The warranty ran out 2 months ago the car has just over 57,000 miles and something called a step motor in the cvt transmission is going out which causes the transmission to fall out of gear. Nissan dose not sell this part, I was told it is part of the valve body but I was also told this part is not being sold ether, I was told I had to buy the while transmission. As I am a student my funds are limited dose any one know of any parts that are interchagible as I am out of ideas. Thank you.

Nissan has a 3 yr/36,000 mi basic, 5 yr/60,000 mi powertrain warranty. Take it to a Nissan dealer for repair under warranty.

Agreed.

Be grateful it failed now and not at 60,001 miles....

Definitely a warranty claim. You have until early 2022 or 60k miles on the transmission, which ever comes first (within 3k miles obviously will be first).

I would call Nissan Consumer Affairs and ask them to open a case # for you. Call Customer Care on (800) NISSAN-1 (or 800-647-7261).
Tell them you went to X dealership and they said your transmission needs repair. As others mentioned your powertrain warranty is good for 5yrs/60k miles. Might as well get whatever you can out of that. You could potentially save $4,000 in repairs. I would do this after work, on your lunch break, sooner rather than later. Usually the biggest hurdle is getting the dealership agree that there is something wrong with the transmission. Let us know how it goes.

I went to the local dealership and brought my car love me folder that has all of the paperwork for the car which I really haven't looked at aside from adding papers when services and added items to the car. In the paperwork there is a set of papers that said MPP - mechanical protection plan, in it says platinum I payed 2,850.00$ for that says 60 months and 75,000 miles. The service man at the dealership said the warranty is still valid. Reason why I did not think I still had a valid warranty was that a few months ago I was getting calls from someone claiming to be from Nissan asking me how many miles were on the car being rude as hell trying to sell me a warranty for over 300.00$ a month which is like having a whole nother car payment that would of lasted 2 years, that is a lot of money. After a month worth of getting calls from this person bulldoging me and speaking to me as if I was 10 years old I told him to stuff his self and I was not going to pay. Some time in the next few weeks I received a letter that looked official saying my warranty expired. I feel at this moment I was targeted for a scam. Thank you for reminding me to take a second look at the paperwork.

Glad there's light at the end of the tunnel for you. However, I do not think the CVT in the 8th Gen has a step motor like its predecessor. Apparently, you are not conversant with these matters. Your new line of study should sure come in handy. First, get a scan tool.

You can safely treat all unsolicited communications about car warranty as spam.

There is very little information on this car mechanicly speaking, I am used to buying technical manuals for cars I have owned I had owned several Datsun vehicles a 81 720 series truck and a 510 wagon, a 77 280z and just inherited a 1971 510 wagon. Growing up my grandfather was a wealth of information as he worked at the Datsun house for over a decade he got his gold tenure pen of which I have. This car too new and a near vacuum of information other then what I could gather from the internet from past generations. Pro-demand that has the information online is only accessable at the college and with my car acting up that is the best educated guess I could come up with. No I haven't had the transmission class yet, I fact I will admit it is nearly the only part that I had never tore down and is a complete mystery to me. Lol
Yes, I own a scan tool. No codes, nothing...

Here you'll get sufficient and requisite technical literature:

I was told that the transmission pan had been crushed inward damaging the valve body causing the issues. Here in this city the speed bumps are ridiculously high to the point that the car is stock hight even with me driving at a snail's pace it still managed to bottom out. I have to buy a new oil pan but they are going to warranty the rest of the work. I believe it happened at the school.
I will take a picture and post it to show the speed bumps around here there is a student that has a lowered 240sx that was painful to watch and that was the only time I had seen that car at school.
