Paint Chip f

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has had any paint chips on their front right passage side bumper from driving. I drive a lot of highway and I assume its from the ****ty roads on I-4 but it was only on the right passenger side and no paint chips on the left driver side.

Would you happy and content if you had paint chips on the driver's side too?

Hey guys, I have a cavity on the right side of my mouth. I'm not too thrilled about it. Shouldn't I also have a cavity on the left side of my mouth too? I think I would feel better if I did.

Be nice...

Gravel chips happen. I sometimes think it depends a lot on which lane you drive in. Right lane might make right side chip more likely. Left lane; left side. It’s just a matter of where the majority of road debris is.

I travel all over the country on Maxima. Winter/ Summer and I have learned a couple of things regarding paint chips. Do not fallow close and do not let anyone over take you. But this is just a precaution you can’t avoid debris hitting your front. Highways patrol once passed by on emergency lane and he went by like a hurricane throwing all sort of debris. There’s no way to avoid this if you travel on the highways. You can’t overtake semi without being hit by the rocks.

Agree with most of what you suggest and if you are on a two lane with a semi coming the other way, try to keep your car in the extreme right and side of the lane before the oncoming truck goes by.
I did notice my 2016 Max Plat bought new seemed to be suspectible to front end chips, more so than the white 2019 I have now.

It's probably too late now but when you replace your Maxima invest in the Invisible bra. I've had it on the last five vehicles and have never had a problem with the film or chipping.

I’m not saying it should be on the left side of the bumper but just wondering if it also happened others...

It’s possible I may be too close and from trucks I do hear the gravel kicking up sometimes

You’ve had no chips on you car? If you did, how did you go about fixing them?

No chips, I had the film installed within the first two weeks after I purchased the vehicle. The film is clear and as you can see in the photo it is invisible unless you get very close and then you only see the edges. I had it installed on my 7th generation also and when I traded it in with over 100k miles it still looked new. Pricey but in my opinion worth it.

I have to admit that the majority of my front end dings are on the front passenger side. Also, I have a 3M invisible bra and even though I am extremely careful passing trucks ( I try to pass at least two lanes to the left and I try like heck never to follow too closely to one, especially a gravel carrying truck. The Invisible bra has apparently taken some hard hits that have gone right through to the paint, and I have never heard rocks hit the car that hard! I have no idea why rocks and debris seem attracted to the passenger front side, however it must be that my passing them on their left side, that is both cars and trucks, creates a low pressure area on the passing side and does suck the rocks into my path. I remember that about a week after buying my new Max I was traveling down the interstate without a car or truck in sight when all of a sudden it sounded like I was being fired at with shotguns. I realized later that I was driving into a fierce wind and that wind was actually blowing the rocks down the highway and directly at me. Boy was I pissed but I noticed no chips when I got home. Of course I had already installed the 3M clear bra, which absorbed most of that fine debris kicked up by the wind. The 3M bra is a fine system, but it in no way is going to stop large rocks from getting through to your paint.

I had some bumper damage last fall that we originally planned to repair, paint and then re-apply my PPF. The body shop called me to come in to ask my opinion after the first day in the shop. After they got the bumper cover off, and stripped the old PPF off (after 50K+ miles), there were hundreds of "dimples" in the paint, where rocks had hit, but not pierced the film. The dimples were NOT apparent when looking at the bumper, but became visible after removing the film. Rather than sand all of the dimples down, the shop and insurance company agreed to new bumper cover.

So the film really did significantly protect the paint - but compyelc4 is correct - it's not going to stop them all.
