My A4 was totaled and I love these newer maximas I'm curious since about the issues I've heard about the car especially the trans going bad. Any input from you guys would help in my decision,I love the look of the car cant wait to go test drive one this weekend. Still debating on going with a used car or buy/lease the car what I do it'll be this weekend then I'll post some pics.

In all honesty “I... myself... personally... in my opinion” (gotta write all that because we all know the guys on this site will flip out and go off on me about all kinds of what if’s and brochure manufacturers warranty etc) ...think it’s the luck of the draw. I have a ‘17 SR with 60K on it and haven’t had one single problem with it. Hell I even have 22in wheels and tires on. And you should see and read some of the comments about how I shouldn’t run 22’s and what it’s absolutely going to do to my car. Smh. A guy laid into me about mechanical engineers and I shouldn’t this and that. Lol! Believe me I get it, we’re all on here sharing opinion solutions and questions looking for answers. And YES there quite a few people on here that have had or experienced the same issues or problems. But I haven’t had one major issue with my wheels or tranny (and I’m not talking about guys that like to wear dresses either) or lights or anything else electrical. And I’m far from babying my car. At times I beat it like it owes me money. Or like a Kentucky derby race horse that’s had its last chance to win or it’s off to the glue farm. You get my point. So I guess I’ve just been lucky or one of the lucky ones or whatever. But I love my Max and haven’t had any problems with it and would recommend to anyone. I mean I like Nissans so I don’t know if that makes me bias or what. Lol! But it’s a great car. All depends on what you like and choice of comfort features compared to others.

I think you should test drive a few cars then test drive the maxima. Its a good car all around, you won't be disappointed. I love mines.

 

The engine is a pure gem and I think this generation of Maxima the transmission is solid and I love the CVT (other than the fake shifts). My concern as the bumper to bumper warranty is about to expire on my max, is the none drive train components. I've had my max into the dealership twice for the power moon roof shade, the second time they had to remove the entire head liner to replace the shade. I have the wind leaks in the moon roof which they can't adjust. I've had the A pillar black plastic piece replaced twice. I'm taking car into the dealership this week for the notorious trunk lid rust which I experienced on my 7th gen. I absolutely love to drive my max and almost everything about it. But the quality of many of the other components scares me,

I don't think you have to worry much about the transmission. There have been a few lemons, but I can comfortably say after being here for over 2 years that failures a rare. Big question is if you will love or hate the CVT. It's a great transmission by many objective measures... but whether you like the "feel" of it is up to you. Most of the time I don't even think about it anymore, I just enjoy the smooth instant power

personality I'd recommend going with "slightly used". I bought mine with 9k on it and saved a bundle. This car isn't perfect so you won't feel so bad when you encounter a slight annoyance... a rattle, etc if you got a good deal. Aside from some little things, I've been very happy with this car

last but not least, don't think this is a sports car despite the 4DSC decal. It's quite fast, handles well, and is sporty (compared to most sedans). If you like it for what it is, you'll be happy with it

 

I've had my used 17 SV for six months now and love it. When I was younger I drove 92GXE, 94GXE with the roof package, and a 98 SE (still on the road today but barely). The 17 is a great car and I really enjoy driving it.

I've seen huge discounts on the 19 maximas. One of my local dealerships had a 19 SL lease for $350 a month with 100 dollars down. That included tax and title etc. That's an insane deal.

You won't get that on a v6 camry as someone suggested you test drive. If you're looking to buy, a Toyota will last you a lifetime. If you're looking to lease or save money, maximas are incredibly discounted at the moment

 

if you want to be 100% sure you won't make a mistake rent and drive one for a week, then decide. Of course that won't help at all with respect to reliability but if we had a crystal ball we'd all be filthy rich.

I didn't rent one before I bought it, and although I still like the car - no regrets - there are things I only noticed after driving the car for a while, not during the test drive.

 

I have owned nothing but Maximas since October 1984, and will only look at other vehicles if Nissan drops the Maxima at the end of the 8th generation. They have all given me excellent service.

I do love the CVT. It has made driving very enjoyable for me, It gives me 33 MPG on freeway trips, which non-CVT Maximas did not. As to the CVT's reliability, the CVT in the Maxima has an extended power train warranty which is much longer than the 3 year bumper-to-bumper.

I personally love the Maxima styling, although styling is a matter of individual preference and taste. And NO, I have NEVER mistaken my 2016 Platinum Maxima for an Altima. Nor vice-versa.

If you do decide on a Maxima, get online and learn the differences between the versions of the Maxima. I love the bird's eye view the cameras give my in my Platinum. But most Maxima models not have the bird's eye view cameras. My old hands also require a heated steering wheel in the colder half of the year. Just get the Maxima with the equipment you want, and driving will be a lot of fun.

Test drove the max actually 2 they weren't in the best condition so the drive was not what I expected not enjoyable. I found a few more maxs I'll go look those this week.

 

cmd26, I researched cars for about 2 years before deciding to buy my Maxima '18 Platinum last December. I felt there wasn't a close second choice. After almost a year, I couldn't be happier. Absolutely love this car. Would buy it again in a heartbeat. Lightonthehill said it well (as he always does). To each his own, but to me, the combination of styling, power, features, gas mileage, safety and reliability is simply outstanding. Wish you the best with your search and decision.

2013 Audi is scary old to be coming up on maintenance items. They will bite your wallet on minor maintenance and eat you alive for major maintenance. Great fun driving to the dealer for repairs however.

I had an 2008 audi i bought in 2016 it was fine. The thermostat went bad but beyond that no problems. I do always hear about audis being money guzzlers and maintenance nightmares, I think if you don't beat em down like everybody does who buys them theyll last my 08 ran fine.

 

Hopefully you'll find one that drives well that you like. Unlike most I'm not die-hard Maxima. I've owned several cars, everything from an '92 thunderbird (first car) to an '12 750Li (and many in between). I've had a '11 Maxima SV and I liked the "premium features" it provides. That's what brought me back to the '18 SL. Can't say it's the only car, or make/model I'll ever own. But it'll do for now.

 

Unless you've driven an S vs an SR vs an SL or a Plat, I have no idea what you are comparing with what. What are your criteria when you decide a car is enjoyable or not? All the 8th gen Maximas have the same engine and the same transmission, but different suspensions, sound suppression, interior and safety features. So what matters to you? I am confused.
