Nissan Navigation Map - 2016 Nissan Maxima
I updated the navigation info on my '17 Max and got it from here:
https://nissan.navigation.com/produc...fromModel=true
No issues with the update.

I just got that email too but $120 seems a little steep for adding some roads I'll probably never encounter on the Navigation which is also way outclassed in every way by Google Maps on my phone.
Not worth it to me, although at one time I contemplated going with the map update. Even though I am an android guy, I bought a like new Apple 6s for little $$ and use it on Apple Carplay so I get a nice-sized screen to use Google, Waze, or Siri, and all the music I want. I am a happy camper now.
I got the same thing. In the past I have seen them for $99. I will hold out for awhile, they eventually start sending more my way. Looking to drop the price a bit.
Sometimes they will give offers with a discount that results in a true cost of $110. The cheapest offer they have ever made to me was $99, and that was around a decade ago. I was disappointed when my 2016 Platinum came with 2013 maps. I did update around 2017, but there are always a few roads they miss. And service stations tend to change brands every five or ten years, so the Nissan nav package can get you to the nearest service station, but it (A) may be boarded up, or (B) may not be the brand the nav package says. But I still love my nav package. It is usually correct on motels, and usually correct on restaurants.
But I always remember little experiences like taking a back road that showed up on my nav as I was driving from Myrtle Beach SC to Montgomery AL back around 2007. The line on the nav map was a short cut, and showed straight thru for almost forty miles. Granted, I was sort of in the middle of nowhere. After around 35 miles, the road turned to gravel. After another five miles or so, the gravel became dirt. The road eventually ended at the gate of a pen holding a large number of hogs. I looked at the hogs, and the hogs looked at me. Then they all began snorting at me. I think they were laughing. I was not laughing. I hate very long backtracks.
I just wish these nav packages had been available back between the late 1940s and the late 1960s, when my work was split between Santa Monica CA, Long Branch NJ and Sierra Vista AZ.I was frequently driving from coast to coast, and work was just underway on the interstate highway system. But there were no nav packages back then, and as a result, I became rather adept at reading a map and driving at the same time, although these days, I usually let my wife drive while I do the map/nav bit and point where she is to go. Like a faithful dog, she is good at following my point. Trips don't tire me out like they did in the old days when I did all the driving.
Back in the early 1960s, I lived in Montgomery AL, and heard a funny story about the Alabama quarterback, Joe Namath. He got lost on his way across south Georgia, and stopped at a pay phone (no cell phones back then) and called a friend. The friend asked him were he was. Joe replied 'I think I am in Litter Barrel Georgia, because I just passed a sign that said 'Litter Barrel Ahead'. He was serious. Auburn fans had a field day with that one.

As an aside, I would rather have my dedicated car GPS do the navigation rather than a small screened phone that in many cases is being used as well a "phone".
Thanks for reminding me that this is possible in 2019 + models. As I recall the update process on the 2019+ seems to be beyond my pay grade though. Have you done it recently? Any cheat sheet steps? Sorry but the manual just doesn't help that much.

Many of us that use our phones for directions and music are actually using the 8-inch screen on the Maxima. For instance I hide my extra phone down inside the console and either Apple carplay or Android auto pops up automatically. I never even have to open that console to look at the wires, but I have that nice large screen.
Make sure you're on a WiFi network.

That was my point from the beginning (and the sole reason I traded a 2016 for a 2019).
How do you get Apple carplay to pop up automatically? I have to start my car first and then connect my phone to the car. If my phone is connected before I start my car, the system will not recognize it for Apple carplay. Then if I stop on my journey I have to do it all over again. Serious pain in the butt.
It was "touchier" on my older iPhone 8 Plus. I had to often force disconnect/reconnect of CarPlay using Info > Apps > CarPlay section (and yes it was a pain in the azz).
My 11 Pro is much faster/more reliable to connect, especially after short trips to the store (i.e. car powered down <10 mins).
and note - zero changed between 8 Plus and 11 Pro - not car software, not phone software)
... however, the scratchy phone audio is still persistent.

If you follow this you should be able to have Apple Carplay activate automatically each time you start the car without you having to continually fiddle with your usb1 connection. At least this worked for me. Also before you begin please make sure you have the latest iOS operating system on your phone. Not required but it will allow more of your Apple-recognized apps to show on your car screen. As you are listening to the instructions you will come to a part that shows a menu on your car screen. On this screen is where you will select the option to have your iPhone link up automatically. You may have to play the instructions a few times to make sure you are set up okay. Let us know if this works for you. If it does you can pitch the hemorrhoid cream 'cause you will eliminate that "pain in your butt". Oh, and 0.118 to 0.137 second marks are the last and most important settings you need to set on your car audio menu settings.

YMMV.
[QUOTE=lindros2;9222579]it's literally just info > system information > map updates.
Make sure you're on a WiFi network.
Do you recall how much time that upgrade took on your 2019 Platinum? Did you leave the car running for this?

But then again, I use in-car navi/maps about once out of 50 or 60 trips. If that.
(occasionally will use premium traffic because it looks nicer than Google and Waze traffic)
