Trunk Lid Rust

I have searched the forum and not found what I am looking for. I have rust on my 2017 trunk at the bottom of the chrome piece on the right, which is the exact same place I had rust on my 2013, 7th generation Maxima. Nissan Canada warranty covered the cost to fix my 2013, 4 years ago. Nissan Canada has refused to cover, under warranty, my current 2017 saying it is not the result of a defect and the car is past the bumper to bumper warranty. The chrome piece does not sit parallel to the metal portion of the trunk as it is closer to the trunk metal on the right. So when the sun hits the chrome (read plastic) piece it expands at a different rate then the metal of the trunk causing the paint to be removed...and hence the rust. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this on their 8th gen. and the response from your dealer or Nissan. Particularly interested if anyone in Canada has any experience with this as I attempt to build a case before approaching Nissan Canada Consumer Affairs. Thanks in advance.

I had them fix some rust behind the chrome trim on the trunk. They fixed it no questions asked, but I was within my original 3yr warranty.

I think I have this problem on my 2017. I see discolouration near the license plate lights. Next summer I may have to remove the chrome trim in that area and have a deeper look.

I have this same issue, mine is to the left of the NISSAN emblem right behind the chrome trim.

Are your cars parked outside? That kind of looks like dew on the paint (not an excuse, just saying).
I have a bug or spider in my taillamp. So clearly there are gaps galore in the rear of the car...

Wow....My paint's clear coat on the hood and roof is just starting to fade and it's the last Made in Japan model 2003 Titanium Edition SE...This is kind of a shock to me!
