To buy or not to buy

So as many of you know, I’ve had some issues with my maxima. Now, I’m unsure if I should finance my lease or not. If I were to do that, I would absolutely get an extended warranty on it. Number wise I feel like it makes the most sense to finance it, but I would appreciate your opinions. It’s a 2018 Platinum. My original contract was based on my 2017 that was lemon lawed and bought back. The selling price out the door after taxes/fees/rebates/discounts was $33,600. My residual is $18,500. I am in college, so I feel keeping this car until I’m done would make the most sense financially speaking and it also seems like a good deal in general at the residual price. Where else could I find a car with all of those features and the engine for $18.5k? Granted it has its rattles and some paint chipping. I guess I would see about getting the front resprayed after winter 2020 (new jersey here lol) and get the car ceramic coated and then just drive it and hope for the best. My lease is up in December and I have 49k miles on it.

After trading in our 2017 Platinum a while back. The Maxima is a lease definitely not a buy. Lease it is my vote.

I think you might have misunderstood the post or I was just confusing lol. I already *have* the lease. It’s up in December. I’m saying i won’t be able to find another car with the maxima platinum features for 18.5k anywhere. So that’s why I’m considering keeping it for 3ish more years maybe or sooner. I’m over my miles as well.

Tough position. I don't like $18.5k with 49k miles on it. IF you decide to keep it. Grab the best extended warranty you can for it. The Maxima is pricey to fix when things go south. I just cant recommend this car long term with out an extended warranty.

I wouldn’t even consider buying it without an extended warranty haha! I’m 100% with ya. If I thought I had more options, I would totally get something else. I just don’t want to get a beater car after having this for 3 years. Ya know? And I don’t think there is much out there comparable with style, features, and engine. I’ve considered a 2018 Accord 2.0, but I think I would fare better with Financing my current maxima (I know the history etc.1 owner) with a warranty and getting it painted and paint corrected as well as having it completely ceramic coated. I would finance it for probably 60-72 months as long as the interest rates are good. That way, if I want to make a double payment/pay more each month I can, but I’m not obligated to pay that higher price at lets say a 36-48 month loan which will be helpful while I’m in college. I also pay as of right now for my mom’s lease (in my name) so I’m forking out 645 a month right now between the two cars 😂. If I can get my total monthly payment in the 400’s again I’ll be very happy and then once she takes over I can use that towards the loan and pay it off sooner. Or just trade it in early down the road depending on my
finances and get something else. Im just not 100% sure if I’m going about this the right way though. I’ve thought over many different scenarios. I don’t think I’ll have a full clear decision until I see what comes in December and what deals the dealers will have going on. Maybe I’ll get a kia K5 or The new TLX. It’s just too far away to fully know. But as of right now I see buying it as my only option unless things change.

If I were you, I'd get a cheap reliable car (new or used). Also consider things like insurance costs, gas, and routine maintenance not covered by warranty. The Maxima is quite costly to keep even apart from the reliability concerns that would be addressed by an extended warranty (and how much does that cost, anyway?). You need a reliable, efficient, low-maintenance car, maybe a Corolla.

Isn't this you on 04/15/2020?

Hello, my name is Mikey. I have a 2018 Maxima Platinum. This was the replacement car for my 2017 that was lemon lawed. This car has been in and out of the shop as well. My main concerns are that I have extreme paint issues. Major and I mean major chipping on the front at only 12 thousand miles (probably sooner than that), Water is leaking inside, it had the valve body on the trans replaced, the steering wheel was replaced (hasn’t been right since), And the ACC/autobrake distance sensor has been replaced twice already. I'm now at 45k miles. I have been trying for over a year now to have this car bought back as well. It’s been a nightmare . And it’s new thing to do now is creak over bumps and turns. I don’t have any other way to describe it other than it sounds like the car is bending. I was the original owner for both vehicles. I actually used to work at the Nissan dealer I got it from originally. I have such a bad taste in my mouth from the brand itself as well as the horrendous support. The consumer affairs team is an absolute joke and it’s sad that they treat their customers like this. Especially one that used to work for the brand.

And now you want to finance and keep the car?

as long as I get a new warranty and they fix the rattles I’ll deal with it and take my chances at this point possibly. As for the chipping I’ll get the front repainted as long as I’m going to be the actual owner of it. I just didn’t want to pay for it on a vehicle I was going to turn in.

I haven’t found it terribly costly to keep so far. I’ve been doing oil changes every 4,700-5,000 miles and everything else except for the front camera has been warranty work/normal wear and tear. I definitely wouldn’t want this car without a warranty for other things though that’s for sure. I’m hoping they’ll discount the warranty a little since I used to work there and make it a $0.00 deductible

What can we look forward to next month?

How many responses do you need to make this decision?
