Electrical Issues

Hey everyone,

I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced any of the problems I’ve been having which are below for a 2016 Nissan Maxima Platinum.
  1. Car Key takes a couple of times to unlock or lock. Once I’m in the vehicle it says it’s not detecting a key and I have it right next to the start button. I usually have to keep pressing the unlock button and holding break along with pressing the start button for it to start. Dealer recommended changing batteries which I’ve done multiple times and it fixes the issue for a week before it starts happening again. I’ve tried multiple battery brands with no success.
  2. The memory seating does not work on the car and will not remember the seat assignments that we place on it.
  3. Bluetooth to connect to the car does not work. I have to directly plug my phone to the aux or usb portion to be able to listen to music via my phone.
  4. The windshield wipers first stage that you can adjust how fast you want them to swipe does not work only the two stages after work.

I haven’t wanted to have the dealer look at it as they charge a diagnosis fee of $500 near me. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Try a total reset. Undo the negative battery terminal and wait 10 minutes. Then reinstall the negative cable. How old is the car battery? If it's over 3 years old, change that out too. Might be a good idea to wire brush both the neg and pos posts while you are at it.
Keep in mind this reset will remove radio stations from memory and the car computer will have to relearn your driving habits for a while. How many miles is on the car?

@robtroxel

I actually just switched out the battery in September of 2022. I’ll try to do that hard reset. Nothing is saving on the car regardless every time you turn it off it forgets all radio stations, and seat preferences regardless. I’m barely about to hit 70,000 miles on it.

Fuse? Or maybe a body computer fail. Maybe another dealer would do the diagnostics scan for less than 500 bucks. Sorry to hear about your problems. The battery might need to be "Load tested" in which case it should read over 12.5 volts with a load applied to it (Not connected to the car) Alternator should be pushing 13 + volts plus for adequate maintenance.
