Throttle Controller?

I installed a throttle controller (that i received last christmas) and i am wondering what settings everyone else uses? I drive fast and hard so i thought i would start on sport mode +5 and you can't drive in the city with that mode. You barely press the gas and a tire breaks loose. If you are already moving, its super sensitive and jerks you around a ton. I dialed it down to sport +3 and its better but you can still break the tires loose if you want (which is fine). I haven't tested racing mode or overtake yet.
I think its definitely worth the money though, its responsive as hell. Made a huge improvement in my 2020.

Does it really matter what settings other people use?

What if everyone who responded said they use +5? Would you use that setting because everyone else was using it?

Continue to test the setting until you find one that suits you, not other people.

Start saving for a new CVT as it was never designed to be used in this way

Silly boy these cars are not designed to be mechanically modified in any way. Tsk tsk.

As these great-looking cars depreciate, more new owners really can't understand why mods are not the greatest idea. As with the throttle controller, it makes the CVT do hard duty as there is more stress on the drive train in daily driving. 300 HP works great for an occasional blast from a stoplight but the CVT was never designed as a 0-60 machine though it is a respectable performer. Enjoy the car for what it is...a design that still turns my head.

Yeah, i think i will remove it this weekend. No matter what setting i have it on, its too touchy. i love having no lag and being super responsive but its too much for the traffic i deal with. I bought it for around $40 during some black friday flash sale so i'm not out much money.

Mechanical engineer with a '16 SV with 136K miles (bought new) chiming in here. Yeah, don't do that. One slip of the belt and it's a downward spiral toward failure. If you'll notice, the CVT temp doesn't even display for the first 10 minutes of driving. So, if you want to go fast, wait until it warms up a bit and you're rolling 5mph+ (so it won't spin the tires) before you hammer it. And when you hammer it, feather the throttle a bit, don't just send the pedal through the floorboard. This is my technique, never had a trans issue, and I live in NYC.

i turned it off for a day.....i turned it back on. Just have it on sport +1.I don't race around, i just like accelerating a little fast and be more responsive when going up hills. I might go back to turning it off and just using the built in sport mode.

Yeah, "sport mode" is the built-in throttle controller from the factory. You may not immediately "kill your car" using these devices; but, over time, you may shorten its life and you won't even realize you may have had the car (CVT) a lot longer than if you didn't use it.

Great advice which you have proven and been rewarded with trouble-free miles.

Thank you. I'm trying to keep it as long as possible. And, to me, the Maxima is worth keeping.
