putting together a bbk

Im looking to put together a 300zx bbk.

I just have a few questions before I start buying.

I'm going to buy 30mm aluminum calipers.

The relocation brackets and brake lines from jeff or matt

My main question is, if I use 6th gen or svt rotors will I have to get them milled out 4 mm? I know if I use 300zx rotors I'll have to get them milled down.

Also I used the wheel diagram to measure my wheels and the back side of my spokes are only 2 inches away from the rotors. And the diagram says you need to be atleast 2.5 inches away. What size wheel spacers would I need to get?

I have a 30mm 300zx/6th gen kit.

The rotors do not need to be milled down, only 300zx rotors do. For the Cobra kit, you need hub rings to center the rotor on the hub, but in the Matt Blehm kit, its basically plug and play.

If you have an aftermarket 17" wheel with a "normal" spoke design, then you should be fine, otherwise get big spacers or different wheels.

alright I guess im going to get 300 300zx calipers and 6th gen maxima rotors (because they dont need to be milled down) the stainless steel brake lines and the relocation brackets. ( i've hear you only need the relocation brackets if you are using the cobra rotors and you dont need them if you are using
300zx or 6th gen rotors is this true?)

My wheels are axis seven mods 18x7.5 with a 42mm offset

you'll still need my brackets if you're going to mount the 6th gen rotors.
you don't need hub rings if you use the 6 gen rotors.

you need brackets AND hub rings if you use Cobra rotors.

your wheels will be close on fittment with either set, but you will have more clearance with the 6th gen rotors.

Matt what is your recommendation on everything I just trying to put together a kit that will the easiest.

30mm aluminum 300zx calipers

6th gen rotors (they do not need to be milled down correct?)

Matt's relocation brackets and stainless steel brake lines

what size wheel spacer do you think is needed?

I would be worried about a narrow rim like that with such a high offset. My 17x8 5zigens with a 35 offset clear the calipers by a hair (literally).

Matt, post up the measurement diagram for this guy so he knows if his wheels will fit!

I used this diagram and the back side of my spoke is 2 inches away from the rotor.

The it's obvious they wont fit, and you'll either need spacers or a different wheel.

15mm spacers should do the trick, but even then will be pretty close.

25.4mm = 1in

25.4mm/2 = 12.7mm, therefore 15mm should suffice.

but with a 15mm spacer will that now make the wheel and tire stick out of the wheel well?

what? you want your cake AND be able to eat it too? sheesh.

j/k man. It may stick out: if your wheel is 42mm offset, adding a 15mm spacer will effectively make your offset 27mm. I already know a wheel with a 35-38mm offset in the front will be about flush, so you might be pushing it.

There comes a point when the math doesn't suffice for me and I just need to *see* it. If you're really concerned, I'd buy some cheap washers that you can put over your lug nuts that will simulate a 15mm spacer. Put the wheel on and check to see where the wheel is.

what he said..

washers are cheap.
you won't be able to bolt the wheel on with that many washers on there, but you might be able to figure out what it looks like. dunno.

you might have to buy new wheels in order to get a BBK to fit.
unfortunately, you're goign to have to do that with just about any BBK, so it's not just mine or Jeff's kit you'd run into this...
an 18x7.5 wheel just isn't that wide for our cars today.. I run an 8" on my Maxima and I've seen up to 9" (and more in some cases) on the 5th gens... going to a wider wheel will allow much better performance from the car..

but then it comes down to a matter of money.. how much do you want to spend to make a BBK fit on your car?

Hey, if it doesn't quite fit, you could always shave off the "NISSAN" lettering for an extra few mm...

IIRC 1990-1991 NA were aluminum, and 1990-1992.5 TT were aluminum. All others were cast iron (not steel).

don't quote me though...I'm not positive.

Or you can use the Q45/J30 2 piston calipers. The pistons are on the inboard side so there is much more clearance on the wheel side. You probably gain a good inch or maybe two right there.
