So tilley, you used the 3.5 lower end , the lower intake (injectors too i assume) and the 3.0 heads and upper intake? What problems did you run in to or is it just plug and play more or less. Also what caused the cat to get cloged, sounds like it ran rich for a while.

and wail.......... isnt there a stroker kit for the 3.5 MUHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!! hello 4.1Ls

awsome job, but i was expecting higher dyno concidering the 12.5 CR

I only used the 3.5 block and internals thats it the rest is 3.0

and vsamoylov if your gonna do a straight up swap that doesnt involve internals boost it right off the bat or something I mean I got my girls car with a 3.5 and 3.0 heads with cams and a bunch of other **** and as for my own car I have a turboed 3.0 with a 6 spd so blaaaa T04r in your face soon to be a low compression 3.5

What car does the VQ30DET come from? Would it be possible to just get a front clip from that car? Sorta like all the 240 guys do it for the SR20?

I got to ride and drive the car today. It's very nice Hard to keep traction when you romp on it. The car kind of reminds me of Phil96SE's car when he had the s/c in it. Instant power!

Oh yea, as for pics. It really looks like a normal 4th gen motor w/ headers and an intake

They are underrated. When the engine came out, Japan had regulations that would not allow more than 280hp in a car(Look at the SkylineGT-R). The GT-R says it only has 280 hp, but people say its closer to 320-340. And people believe the VQ30DET is closer to 300hp. I don't know if it is a fact, but it sounds very true. And it is not related to this discussion

Since your motor is in can you get a pic of how you mounted the trans mount cause mine was auto and wasnt even close to matching up, cause the 4th gen mount is on the trans but 6th gen is bolted to the frame?

So you got a smashed 5.5 gen and basically just switched everything into the 4th gen? What were the major problems?

Tilley/emmas97,

So, what octane pump gas are you guys using? Any hints of detonation such as climbing a hill, A/C on, and lugging a gear? What have temps been like there?

Also, did you have to swap aux components like A/C compressor, alternator, sensors, etc.? The 4th gen 5spd manual tranny bolts right up to the VQ35 block?

Last, the VQ35 main pulley doesn't use a toothed crank sensor like the '95-'01, so did you just swap the UDP from her VQ30 to the VQ35? Did the sensor mount need fabrication?

we are running 93 octane and no problems with detonation

I used all 3.0 components and the trans mounts up no problem

I had to use the 3.0 pulley and the sensor mount is on the oil pan which is basically the same as a 3.0 except for the flywheel side CPS is but I just ground it flat cause it was off like 1/4 inch

Come on Tilley....answer the rest of the questions please.

AT LEAST which sensors did you need to swap? UDP?

Im very interested in this but i want to find a new timing chain assembly off a newer max and heads(00-01) because my 96 max is old, loud and leaky.
Also sr20den says with nismo rod bolts 7500rpm would be no problem,But i have a lot planned for my car. With a few nismo internals.

Tilley, Do you now have full 3.5L displacement? or is it less then that since you have different heads?

Cylinder heads doesn't affect displacement. Displacement is the volume swept by the pistons from BDC to TDC...

heads do affect displacment, otherwise he would be running the same #s as a 3.5 as far as compression goes. Which he isn't, last i heard he has 12.5:1 and a stock vq35de has 11.?:1.

So he isnt running a full 3.5L probably just shy of it.

Yes, heads affect compression ratio. The heads define a certain volume when the piston is at TDC. Making that volume larger or smaller changes the compression ratio, but it doesn't change the amount of air that is pulled in on the downstroke. That is strictly determined by bore and stroke.

yeah, but CR has a direct relation to power output, so he is not making stock HP numbers if CR is changed.

Nope. That's incorrect. Compression can be increased and the cylinder displacement will remain exactly the same. The definition of displacement is the volume swept by the piston from BDC to TDC. Compression ratio is calculated as the ratio of the combustion chamber volumes, volume at BDC compared to TDC.

Edit: Just noticed you realized this to be true yourself.

They are I think its cause the tires are a smaller diameter and the car has no high rpm power(no mevi) so it lags from 1/8 to 1/4. The 13.87 was against a A3 jetta GLX SCed running 10 psi and I had him by .1 at the 1/8 but he ended up winning by .3

bottom ends are easy for me but wiring it all would take a lil time.

There are about 10 motors within an hour of me for 900 or less

Wiring? ahh crap, here i was getting all excited. I though you just droped the bottom end in with 3.0 heads and called it a day. What else is involved in getting it running?

If you want the 3.5 bottom end then you can use the wiring from your car.

But I want the whole motor..So i would need the ECU and Wiring from the 5th gen to make it run.

Im preaty serious about this project too, i know the down time would be big. If i cant find sombody worthy of helping me im just going to do it my self.

Tilley how much do u think for this project. Including parts...or if i provided parts.
