Mix and Match coils
I am changing my rear vavle cover gasket since it leaks, I am replaceing the vavle cover with the 00 one and I am going to use the 00 NONupdated coils in the rear and my 97 coils in the front. I should not misfire correct? Thse coils were working when I removed them from the old engine.
Sorry to but in guys, but Kevlo, are you switching coils to avoid grinding down the rear coil mounts, or b/cuz the 4th gen coils won't fit properly on the 5th gen rear valve cover? Is there any way to avoid grinding down those coil mounts on the 4th gen rear valve cover when installing the 00 VI?
Oh, and thanx for your reply on helping me install a VI on my 96. Hopefully I'll have the money for the parts sometime soon, so I'll let u know when I'm ready.

so can you use the 4th gen valve cover with the VI? the only 5th gen part that will be on my car will be the VI. I guess we'll be going with the grinding of the coil mounts, seems to be the best bet. Also will be using 4th gen coils. Kevlo, did you 1/4 mile your car yet? Dyno?

Power is really really weak. But the 00vi difference is there. That dyno sucked bad, I am going to redyno and tune here. I used someone elses AF tuning so it is wrong anyways, I can get more power out of it. The redline is no tuning or rpm switch and those numbers also suck.

SMT6 AF tuning only, no timing. 4900 switchover.
I should be making more power. Redline is w/o smt in. It's only 155hp
That is a stock Maxima. I have a ypipe too

thats what i was going to say. Thats what a stock auto should be putting out. KS bad, or throwing any codes? So you set the rpm switch for 4900 and thats when it opens? I remember reading that people had to set it earlier because these switches are designed for 8 cyl. vehicles.

Well I am using the SMT6 as my RPM switch too. So it opens at 4900. No codes or ghost codes.
I think I may have had bad gas on the dyno because car started to knock on first run when I had some timing advance.
oh, didnt know the SMT was the rpm switch. I gotcha. Is that the best switchover point? Or do you have to dyno to actually find the best point. I know some people were using 4600, but i read some other guy say anything lower than 5000 causes it to bog. We are going to start ripping my car apart tonite, and hopefully finish up the install on saturday.

If the dyno didnt fck up, I would know the better switch over but as you can see tha gaps do not help at all.
Anything lower than 4900 is not good, you lose power.
