Why can timing not be ADVANCED with Emanage Blue?

Is it because of our coil per plug ignition type that we can't advance ignition timing with the Emanage Blue? I had always assumed that the unit itself just didn't have the ability to advance ignition timing, that it could only retard timing, and yet I found out about 5 minutes ago that line of thinking is completely incorrect. The Blue itself can advance ignition timing as confirmed by multiple people on a website I frequent that have done it themselves, and multiple descriptions of the Blue that I found by just googling.

Blue does not know when to fire the coils. It cant think in the "future." Which is one reason why I like the SMT better. It does not drive the coils, it controls the crank sensor signals which is what the ECU uses to advance and retard the timing.

OK so it's because of our coil on plug ignition setup that it can't advance it. Makes sense.
