Well that spot must've been insulated somehow. Once again, the battery IS NOT a ground. I'm curious...why didn't jay ground the harness to the frame in the first place? We did that on my friends 95 with 00VI swap and it worked perfectly from the beginning. The frame is actually the best ground period. The battery is grounded to the frame, the motor is grounded to the frame, the auto tranny is grounded to the frame, you get the idea. And just FYI, it's the negative terminal, not the ground terminal since the battery isn't a ground.

Congrats on getting it working though...

btw on the VAFC2 you use the pink wire (+12V) labeled VTEC out for the 00vi red connector wire, the blue wire from the 00vi connector should go to your newly grounded IM ground wires from the battery. then just set the VAFC2's VTEC changeover point (you have two: Lo->Hi and Hi->Lo, low to high should be set about 4800-5000

I was about to ask this. I dont have a harness for my VI connector. I will ghetorig one. If I understand it correctly i have to use the BLACK plug and NOT the BROWN plug. Is the PIN towards the manifold ground and the PIN towards the battery 12V?

The connector is very Nissan generic. If you have access to an engine harness you will probably find a connector that will fit that plug.

It looks alot like our old injector connector. I would try but I have already made my own connector.

Good to hear that the problem is fixed. I had it grounded to the negative battery terminal with a wire running across the engine bay just to see if it fixed the problem. After that, I connected it to the timing chain cover. It doesnt matter if it is connected to the body or negative battery terminal, its the same thing. The valve cover is not a good grounding point because the gasket between the block and head and the bolts have rubber washers.

yeah the brown connector is the one for the swirl valves - on california emissions manifolds. the one you need to use is right inderneath the first vacuum nipple (left not right, when looking at the manifold from front of car.) if you have the brown plug you can use that for the black one too, they should be interchangeable.
