And why do you say that....the maxima ECU wont let you go overboard on tuning cause it just changes it next run. The guy at the dyno did what was best for NA, keep in mind that he is a smart guy and dynos penske indy cars. He tried adding fuel but the ecu just fights it till its back to normal.

I agree that the ECU limits major tuning changes. However when I tuned my ECU it never fought any of the A/F or Timing advance changes. It only lost power when it had a CEL for the cam sensor and that is at the limit of timing advance with the SMT-6.

so you guys have never thought about megasquirt? For about $180 you can control fuel and spark completely. diyautotune.com has prices and for info go to megasquirt.info For your VQ's Id use Megasquirt 1 and Megasquirt N spark-extra software. Thats what Im using in my RWD project and Im using it on a VQ30. It'll work fine with the stock coil over plug setup too.

My N/A VQ35 I'm creating the most power using the following:

3500-4000rpm 13.0 AFR
4000-5000rpm 12.8 AFR
5000-6800rpm 12.5 AFR

The answer is go tune your own car and find out... everyone's car and mods are different not to mention atmospheric conditions and dynos but generally it seems it's in the range of high 12's to mid 13's.

That's EXACTLY my point ....

Just like every car has a different base A/F before tuning, every car is different and will react so to various A/F's.

Just like 1/4 mile times and dynos, it depends on the conditions on the day of tuning, etc:

On a side note, I've heard that keeping a constant line (straight) is best for VQ35's. Other's tune a bit more rich up top. One logic for this is to reduce/reguate heat up top, as well as companesate for spark energry reducing as engine speeds increase. May or may not be true.

Another one of those situations where there are too many variables to decide what is the best A/F for a given car for a given day.

Back to the cookie cutter method...
