Spark Plug Gaps

The guys that have a 3.5 in their 4th gens what are the spark plug gaps are they the same as the factory gaps?

I talked to Tilley he recommended regapping the plugs since he did it on Emmas car and he mentioned it ran better overall.

.043 is factory gap (02 Max).

I wonder if he just gapped to factory spec or if he gapped it to a lower number for better performance.

If memory serves .35-.44 is a tolerable for 4th gen plugs, but sure it would run better at a particular gapping.

Or get a gapper for a buck at Auto Zone. If you are feeling that cheap, then just goto Autozone, grab the gapper off the shelf, gap them, leave.

so over-decrease the gap and then size up to what you want with the gap tool

You want the gap to be as open as possible. Open it until you get spark break up then back it down a bit. This forces the coil to push at its maximum energy level to make the spark jump gap. The biggest strongest spark is what you want.

but wouldnt you want the spark gap to be small in our compression ratio engine so it wont blowout?

No. Spark blowout doesn't occur unless you're making a whole lotta HP (boosted basically). You want the gap to be as wide as possible, like mardi said.

going from NA to Nitrous you will need to close the gap down. Same as turbo, you are adding more fuel and air to the combustion chamber which will make it harder for the spark to jump the gap, so you will need to make the gap smaller.

I run .028 in my set up and thats with a Kenne Bell Boosa-A-Spark.

then the most tolerable gap is whats needed (for NA applications).

How would you see the spark break up? I assume you'd test the gap setting with a spark plug out, and grounded so you can watch the spark?

No, you can feel it when you drive it full throttle or on a dyno you can see it in the graph.
