man this thread is helpful...and confusing. Had some questions hopefully someone will answer:

1) Do you have to use a VQ35DE clutch/pressure plate or can you use the old VQ30DE clutch/pp? I tried to read through all this mess and I saw someone say it has to be from the 3.5 to get the proper offset to the TOB/fork, then I saw someone said only the flywheel needs to be from the 3.5 for it to work. Please clear it up.

2) do the cables have to be from a Maxima or can they be from, say, a Spec V? what about the floor shifter? I seem to recall the 02-03 Spec V's had an identical shifter as those year Maximas, but I can't remember for sure.

3) you need a bracket on the side of the engine bay, right? it's bolted in on the 02-03's but welded in on the 04+ right? What about those year Spec V's? Is the bracket bolted in or welded in there too, and do you guys think it could swap out?

It's so damn hard trying to find these parts from an 02-03 Maxima, it'd be helpful if there were other cars to pull parts from.

1. i wasnt able to get the 3.0 flywheel to work with the spacer i baught. but, theres a guy on engineswaptech.com who did use the 3.0 flywheel but made a custom tob i believe.

2. i dont know for sure. 95 turbo gxe is using a spec v trans but i believe hes using the maxima shifter and such. you can probably make a spec v shifter work.

3. i dont know. check out engine bay pics. i believe its bolted in also. but iirc the spec v and maxima 6spds are identical outside.

i really had no problem finding all my parts. car-part.com was my friend along with the parts guy at the nissan dealership. you can get all the parts that way, it just takes time

SpecV shifter won't work and I highly doubt the cables will.

hey, about #1, you talk about the flywheel but my question really is more about the clutch/pp.

thanks for the help thouh, yeah I've been looking all over Car-Parts.com and found a 6MT 02 but the shifter, cables, and mounts were already gone (lol one of you guys probably). Maybe DaveB will help me out.

my bad, i mis read your question. the vq35 clutch and pp have more surface area so why not use em?.

iirc the cables were like 300ish from dealer. i got my shifter and cables for 200shipped from a junkyard. the trans mount was about 40 and the frame mount was just over 100.

I am looking for the CPS ring for the Z33 to bolt on to my A32 (5speed) flywheel (like the bottom left pic shown). Has anyone had these made? I am willing to purchase one. If not then I will use the Z33 flex plate one and make an adapter to fit onto my flywheel.

Thanks!

A32 is bottom right

Check out the 6MT bolt-on timing ring at the bottom of the ebay ad.

You will need to get one of those timing rings that Travis had made.

What ECU are you using? You probably want the A33 ring instead.

I am already running an AEM with my current set up. I just need to change the cal to run A33 or Z33 timing ring. Is there a difference in the teeth? Essentially, what I am trying to do is make sure that the teeth triggering the CPS is the same as the A33 or Z33 ... as if I am running the 2002+ ECU.

Thanks!

The only difference between the A33 and Z33 timing rings is the offset and clock on the flywheel. If you can control both it doesn't matter which one you get. But if if you end up using a flex plate, you will most likely want the FWD flex for that reason.

Cool. Thanks for the information. I have the FWD flex so that should work. Just thought if someone had made extra ring gear, I would just buy one. Any idea how far off the clocking is? I am just curious, I just had assumed they would be clocked the same is all.

The clock is off by exactly one bolt on the crank.

And IIRC, 6mm offset.

The timing ring from the A33B flex plate will not fit on the A32 flywheel. The dished part of the formed section that gives the offset is a considerably larger diameter than the recess in the flywheel. The bolting pattern is also different.

I had a spacer ring lasercut and machined to give me the correct offset. It was made from 3/8" hrs plate. I cut the timing ring off an A33B flywheel and had that welded onto the spacer.
The offset is perfect and I have been running it for about 1-1/2 years with no problems.

I'm going to post this here rather than make a thread about it.

Got my 350Z ACT clutch in today. Is it supposed to be...uneven?

Anyone else have one? Is this normal?
