VQ35 Crankshaft In VQ30

I was Reading on the forums a while back about a project someone was doing where they used VQ35 crankshaft and rods in the VQ30. i was just curious if this is possible and if it would work. i know that you can use the VQ40 crankshaft with some shaving of the block but was unsure about the VQ35.

Thanks!

it would work but is a complete waste of time. with how cheap they are just buy a VQ35.

VQ30 block and pistons+VQ35 crank and rods=VQ33
VQ35 block and pistons+VQ30 crank and rods=VQ32

Again why bother when just getting a VQ35 will probably only set you back by $500.

yep, will work, the VQ40 has bigger mains and higher deck I haven't seen anyone compare it to the HR mains but then haven't really look..... yes it is kinda a waste of time unless you just want something a little different and are adding such things that would complement that mix. I am currently doing the other way going with a 30 crank into a 35 block for my project car so if this is something you decide to get into I will have a 35 crank or two to get rid of.

Like Crusher said it is kinda of a waste of time, since FWD VQs are cheep, but if you want something that hasn't been done much or just to look factory with a tiny bit more and you have the time and resources to do, I say go for it, it would more then likely give you a bit more on the low/mid end and 35 aftermarket rods are cheep compared to having 30 ones made.

Oh hey Crusher I just thought of a time it would pay off, and that is if you have to do a rebuild anyway so you would be pulling the crank and putting new bearings and rings in but don't have the budget to deal with getting a whole engine and swapping all the parts from the 30 to the 35 block and not messing with ecu stuff, so you would just be spending the little extra for the crank and rods...... just saying

if VQ35 internals work i don't see why FORGED VQ35 internals wouldn't work. in theory you could also bump compression past the stock 10.5:1, idk if that eliminate the ability to run boost/forced induction with 93 gas though.

however if went for lower C:R you car would appear to be a 3L which would make it legal-ish to run forced induction in all 50 states and have a sneaky extra .3L of stroke.

whats the story with the VQ40 would it even fit in a maxima or mate with the trans?

EDIT: what does "HR" stand for other than Human Resources? :P

EDIT: this is also a nice relevant find though my question with the vq40 stands.

Stock is 10.3:1 for the VQ35DE and 10.0:1 in the VQ30DE.
HR in the Nissan world (depending on who you ask)= High Response/High Revolution and 10.6:1 CR.

Its just really not worth it vs swapping. For most boosted projects stock internals are strong enough because the chassis cannot handle much of anything beyond 320whp. Both the VQ30 and VQ35 can do that without any trouble completely stock.

Stock internals are forged but are built for lightweight not high strength. However the VQ30DET rotating assembly swapped into the USDM VQ30DE/DE-K makes it virtually bulletproof, those are reliable up to around 800hp. You'll need special additives/E85/C16 before you'll see that number on pump gas.

For an NA build: Doable, yes, easily. Worth it, No. Somebody with a full swap will be blasting by your hybrid motor, and will have spent less doing it. Especially with people now pulling +300whp out of stock block motors.

Lol....dont know where you can get a low milage good condition vq35 for $500----> Aint happening no way---->unless you travel to the backwoods somwhere and yank the motor yourself. By that time your into it for another $750 or more for your troubles.
