I just bought these speakers after hearing very favorable reviews from many people (namely Matt93se). I am toying with the idea of making a sealed enclosure for the mid-basses in my front doors. I think they would produce better sound, along with protect them from any moisture that may enter the door via the window. I have tried to find information on what type of volume would be appropriate for them in such an enclosure, but to no avail.
The design I am toying with is simple: very small enclosure constructed mostly of wood ( I have found some very strong 1/4" material and would reinforce with aluminum L brackets) only marginally larger than the BOSE pods that originally came with the car. I do not have the experience necessary to work with fiberglass or vinyl and build something into the space of the map pockets, unfortunately. Would this small enclosure be large enough for the speaker? I think the approximate volume would be around .1 cubic feet. I know I can build it strong enough and seal it up ok, so thats not a concern. Any suggestions/opinions? Thanks,
Tim

I have those speakers and I have them in the BOSE pods and they sound just great!! The bass isnt much better then the bose but thats cause I have them hi passed at around 70hz. So they dont get the low freq. that can blow them potentially at high volumes plus my high wattage (125rms to each). I love the way they sound, no distortion even when I just keep a crankin them up!!!!! My sub is crossed over at 90hz or so so the range of freq. interacts and man let me tell you its SQ heaven to me!!!!!
0.1 cube is waaay too small for it. When I bought those particular speakers, the store had some on display in a 0.5 cube ported box. sound was amazing, and there was enough bass to shake the ceiling tiles.
I removed the door panels on my car and replaced the map pocket with a sealed enclosure which came out to about .45 ft sealed. sound was much better, but then my new problem was fixing all the rattles in the doors.. once of my biggest things was that the entire back of the enclosure (2.5 ft long by 8 inches tall) wasn't strong enough to support the pressure the speaker created. the remedy to that requires cutting the enclosure open again and inserting some braces so the rear can't flex. not that big of a deal, but the enclosures are also pretty heavy- probably 20lb each.
Anyway, it's a very good idea and will help the sound greatly- BUT you need a biggen enclosure than the tiny bose boxes.
