Amp Opinions needed....

I am thinking of putting either Phoenix Gold Ti 600 and 500 amps into my wifes Explorer. OR a JL 500/1 and a 300/2. What speakers I will be running is irrelevent, but it would most likely be something in the Diamond Audio line...

Just trying to get a few opinions...I have the amps and just cant figure on which I want to use and which I want to sell....

don... although i have no experiences with pg - my friends have all had nothing but rave reviews for their jl amps. a few are running 500/1's and recommend them to everyone. from what i hear from them they are extremely solid and reliable.

I definately agree on the JL amps. I have them in my car now, and am taking them out for Diamond Audio D7 amps. I also have PGs I just cant decide on which to put into my wifes truck...

I thought you were selling the truck? And the Maxima too? I guess you had a change of plans. JL 500/1 and 300/2 sounds nice, but I'm biased!

So, when can I come up to see you? You know you gotta finish my car, right?

OK...I'll try to get a day off from work ASAP, and I'll be there all day. Pretty soon the REALLY cold weather is gonna be here. Then what are we gonna do?

stick with the JL,
as said, reliable, customer service is great as well..

also, the amps run peak power stable anywhere from 1.5-4.0 ohms..

JL is nice crisp sound.. =]

I agree with everyone that said the JLs are reliable, just not my thing anymore....I would MUCH rather prefer the Diamond D7 amps. Much cleaner...

Nick...YOU let me know when.....and dont cancel again !!!!

I still feel bad about that. I hope you're not mad at me. Anyways, good luck with the new amps! I'll hopefully see you soon so we can finish my car. I think I changed my mind again for mounting the amps.

IMO go with whichever are cheaper.

If the phoenix are cheaper, get them over the JL.

I am running JBL and rockford fos and both suit me well

Both are good choices...I give a slight edge to the JL.

If either amp is cleaner than the other it is by a margin that is irrelevant. The PG's will most likely be more powerful into lower impedances. The JL's more powerful into higher impedances. The JL's should be much more efficient / easier on the power supply. But the cost of that is less power for dramatic transients. Once again, probably inaudible. In this situation I would consider the differences in what it would cost to run large enough power wires and space considerations for mounting the amps. Also whether or not you want a theme for the install such as promoting one or the other's equipment.

jmax always with the solid answer...

like he said, both are great amps.. how do the x-over features compare? does one set fit the install better in that manner?

Yea James does have a habit to really elaborate on his answers, but he does always make good sense

The crossovers points I never really considered as I run them through an Audio Control 6XS making them not used anyway.

I am fairly certain that the JL can crossover up to 5 khz. And I know the PG has an excellent X-over. It's a non-issue unles you want / need bandpass on the amp. The PG has it. I am not sure about the JL.
