QUESTION: 1990 Maxima and Speakers

I currently have a 1990 Nissan Maxima and was wondering if I upgrade the stock head unit and add an amp and sub, would the stock BOSE speakers work well? When i turn up the volume they get distorted and I was wondering if this is due to the old head unit or do you think that the speakers need to be replaced? Additionally, If I were to replace the speakers what size do I need (the two speakers in the front AND two in the rear between the seats and rear windshield (not in the door)?

Not sure why the speakers would be distorting, but if you want to replace them, the front doors are 4" and the rears ore 6x9". With a little work or brackets from an 89-94 GXE, you can put 4x6" in the front.

If I am adding a subwoofer would I be looking to replace the stock speakers with a 2-way, 3-way, component, mid-range or mid-bass speakers?

I personally would go with the Boston Acoustics Rally Series 4" component set in the front. It has the 4" mids in the doors and 1" tweets that go wherever you want them to. In the rear I would go with mid-bass. But that's just me.

If you change your head unit, you need an adapter at the head unit so that the bose speakers can work. If you do change the head unit and speakers, you should be all set. The fronts are 4x6 and rears are 6x9. You can always use larger speakers in the front, just get a bracket.

Hold on... my bad. You didn't say whether you had an SE or a GXE. Fronts for the SE were 4" and the GXE had 4x6".
